Daily scripture readings, psalms, and prayers that follow in the ancient traditions of the Church. Follow along using the session outlines at DivineOffice.org or by using the Divine Office iPhone, iPod, iPad app or Android app. From ancient times the Church has had the custom of celebrating each day the liturgy of the hours. In this way the Church fulfills the Lord’s precept to pray without ceasing, at once offering praise to God the Father and interceding for the salvation of the world. For this expressed purpose, the recordings of the Hours presented here are intended to expand awareness of this Liturgy, introduce and practice the structure of this prayer, and to assist in the recitation of the Liturgy in small groups, domestic prayer and where common celebration is not possible.

  • August 21st, 2026 – This Week: How I Long to See the Flame Leap Up – Divine Office: Liturgy of the Hours 21.08.2026
The Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time • Saint Bernard • Saint Pius X • The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary • Liturgical Colours: Green/White This week begins with Christ’s striking words, from Sunday’s Evening Prayer: “I have come to cast fire upon the earth; how I long to see the flame leap up!” In Luke’s Gospel, this is Christ speaking about the urgent nature of His mission — that purifying fire is the zeal of divine love He came to kindle in the world, the same fire that would later appear as tongues of flame at Pentecost. What follows this week traces where that fire goes: its intended reach across the whole world; what it costs to carry, and its quiet, daily form in the Church’s own prayer — the Hours themselves, described by Saint Basil as “the voice of the Church,” rising unceasingly. Sunday‘s Evening Prayer II and Christ’s startling words: “I have come to cast fire upon the earth; how I long to see the flame leap up!”— Magnificat Antiphon, Evening Prayer II, 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Luke 12:49) In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus is saying His message will bring radical division rather than immediate peace. That fire, the intense, disruptive, and purifying power of God’s truth will divide loyalties and test human hearts. The Office of Readings that same day, from Saint John Chrysostom, names how far that fire was meant to travel: “I am not sending you into two cities only or ten or twenty, not to a single nation… but across land and sea, to the whole world.”— Second Reading, Office of Readings, Sunday (From a homily on Matthew by Saint John Chrysostum, (Salt of the earth and light of the world)) Monday‘s Office of Readings names what carrying that fire actually costs. Saint Gregory the Great describes those who bear it as beset on every side: “Holy men beset by tribulation must endure the assaults of those who use violence and verbal attacks… with wisdom they teach the wayward while showing a courageous contempt for outward hostility.”— Second Reading, Office of Readings, Monday (From the Moral Reflections on Job by Saint Gregory the Great, (Struggles without, fears within)) On Tuesday, the biblical instruction from Colossians gives the fire its most ordinary form — not a mystical vision, or a transcendent experience but a daily practice: “Sing gratefully to God from your hearts in psalms, hymns, and inspired songs.” A fire that is kept alight through nothing more dramatic than daily singing. On Wednesday, Saint Augustine’s homily, written in his poignant style many centuries ago, is teaching a lesson in gratitude, much needed both in the old and the modern times: “Have we forgotten the flood and the calamitous times of famine and war…? Far from justifying complaints about our own time, they teach us how much we have to be thankful for.” — Second Reading, Office of Readings, Wednesday, (From a sermon by Saint Augustine, (He who perseveres to the end will be saved)) Thursday, the Memorial of Saint Bernard, we see what happens when the fire takes hold of a single life. His own proper antiphon says it plainly: “Blessed Bernard, your life, flooded by the splendor of the divine Word, illumines the Church with the light of true faith and doctrine.” — Benedictus Antiphon, Morning Prayer, Memorial of Saint Bernard, Abbot and Doctor of the Church Friday, the Memorial of Saint Pius X, brings the week’s clearest answer to what the daily singing of psalms actually is. In his own apostolic constitution, read in the Office of Readings, Pius X describes the psalms prayed in the Liturgy of the Hours: “That singing of psalms, which is the daughter of that hymn of praise… which goes up unceasingly before the throne of God and of the Lamb.” — Second Reading, Office of Readings, Memorial of Saint Pius X (From the apostolic constitution Divino afflatu of Pope Saint Pius X, (The song of the Church)) This is the fire’s quiet, daily form — not an engulfing blaze but an unceasing rising, hour by hour, voice joined to voice, across the whole Church. Saturday closes the week with the Memorial of the Queenship of Mary, and a homily by Saint Amadeus of Lausanne that shows where a life entirely carried by that fire finally arrives: “She was borne from virtue to virtue by the Spirit of the Lord, she was transported from earthly renown to heavenly brightness.” — Second Reading, Office of Readings, Memorial of the Queenship of Mary (From a homily by Saint Amadeus of Lausanne, (Queen of the world and of peace)) The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God: the same fire Christ longed to see leap up, fully alight in a single human life, all the way to heaven in glory. The Hours are how this fire has stayed lit for centuries — not through dramatic gestures, but through daily, ordinary prayer joined across the whole world. If this daily practice means something in your own life, please consider supporting our work, including our ongoing Spanish Liturgy of the Hours project. divineoffice.org/contribute ✞Pray Morning Prayer for the Memorial of Saint Bernard, Abbot and Doctor of the Church ✞Pray Office of Readings for the Memorial of Saint Pius X, Pope ✞Pray Office of Readings for the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary With gratitude,The Divine Office Team
  • August 21st, 2026 – About Today – Divine Office: Liturgy of the Hours 21.08.2026
August 21 Saint Pius X, Pope Memorial “For if true love alone has the power to unite the wills of men, it is of the first necessity that we should have one will with Mary to serve Jesus our Lord.” [1] St. Pius X was born to a peasant family in 1835 in northern Italy. At 23, he was ordained and became a chaplain. Regular promotions followed: in 1875, he became episcopal chancellor of Treviso and spiritual director of the diocesan seminary; in 1884, Bishop of Mantua; and, in 1893, Patriarch of Venice. When he was elected pope in 1903, he adopted the motto, ‘Instaurare omnia in Christo’ or ‘To renew all things in Christ.’ His papacy achieved many things: a restructuring of the Roman Curia, revised guidelines for priestly formation, work toward a revision of the Code of Canon Law, a catechism, liturgical reforms, encouragement of frequent communion, and the establishment of Biblical Institute in Rome. St. Pius X was intransigent in shunning “modernist” theology and biblical scholarship, and resisted, not always with diplomatic finesse, efforts by nations to interfere in the life of the Church. He was canonized in 1954 by Pope Pius XII. [2] Written by Sarah Ciotti Reviewed by Fr. Hugh Feiss, OSB, STD [1] Pius X, Ad Diem Illum Laetissimum [On the Immaculate Conception], 1904. Lord, open my lips. — And my mouth will proclaim your praise. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ, chief shepherd of the flock, alleluia. Psalm 95 Come, let us sing to the Lord and shout with joy to the Rock who saves us. Let us approach him with praise and thanksgiving and sing joyful songs to the Lord. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ, chief shepherd of the flock, alleluia. The Lord is God, the mighty God, the great king over all the gods. He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the highest mountains as well He made the sea; it belongs to him, the dry land, too, for it was formed by his hands. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ, chief shepherd of the flock, alleluia. Come, then, let us bow down and worship, bending the knee before the Lord, our maker, For he is our God and we are his people, the flock he shepherds. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ, chief shepherd of the flock, alleluia. Today, listen to the voice of the Lord: Do not grow stubborn, as your fathers did in the wilderness, when at Meriba and Massah they challenged me and provoked me, Although they had seen all of my works. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ, chief shepherd of the flock, alleluia. Forty years I endured that generation. I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray and they do not know my ways.” So I swore in my anger, “They shall not enter into my rest.” Ant. Come, let us worship Christ, chief shepherd of the flock, alleluia. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ, chief shepherd of the flock, alleluia.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia. HYMNThe King of love my shepherd is, Whose goodness fails me never. I nothing lack if I am His, and He is mine forever. Where streams of living water flow, my ransomed soul He's leading; and where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feeding. Perverse and foolish, oft I strayed, but yet in love He sought me; and on His shoulder gently laid, and home, rejoicing, brought me. In death's dark vale I fear no ill, with You, dear Lord, beside me; Your rod and staff my comfort still, Your cross before to guide me. You spread a table in my sight; Your unction grace bestowing; and oh, what transport of delight from Your pure chalice flowing! And so through all the length of days, Your goodness fails me never; Good Shepherd, may I sing Your praise within Your house forever. 𝄞"The King of Love My Shepherd Is" by Johanna Montealto • Musical Score • Title: The King of love my Shepherd is Author: H. W. Baker (1868) Tune: ST. COLUMBA, Ancient Irish melody; Recording copyright 2016 Surgeworks PSALMODY Ant. 1 My God, do not reject my cry for help, assailed as I am by the wicked. Psalm 55 Against a friend proved traitor Jesus was seized with fear and distress (Mark 14:33). I O God, listen to my prayer, do not hide from my pleading, attend to me and reply; with my cares, I cannot rest. I tremble at the shouts of the foe, at the cries of the wicked; for they bring down evil upon me. They assail me with fury. My heart is stricken within me, death’s terror is on me, trembling and fear fall upon me and horror overwhelms me. O that I had wings like a dove to fly away and be at rest. So I would escape far away and take refuge in the desert. I would hasten to find a shelter from the raging wind, from the destructive storm, O Lord, and from their plotting tongues. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. My God, do not reject my cry for help, assailed as I am by the wicked. Ant. 2 The Lord himself will free us from hostile and treacherous hands. II For I can see nothing but violence and strife in the city. Night and day they patrol high on the city walls. It is full of wickedness and evil; it is full of sin. Its streets are never free from tyranny and deceit. If this had been done by an enemy I could bear his taunts. If a rival had risen against me, I could hide from him. But it is you, my own companion, my intimate friend! How close was the friendship between us. We walked together in harmony in the house of God. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. The Lord himself will free us from hostile and treacherous hands. Ant. 3 Entrust your cares to the Lord; he will sustain you. III As for me, I will cry to God and the Lord will save me. Evening, morning and at noon I will cry and lament. He will deliver my soul in peace in the attack against me: for those who fight me are many, but he hears my voice. God will hear and will humble them, the eternal judge: for they will not amend their ways. They have no fear of God. The traitor has turned against his friends; he has broken his word. His speech is softer than butter, but war is in his heart. His words are smoother than oil, but they are naked swords. Entrust your cares to the Lord and he will support you. He will never allow the just man to stumble. But you, O God, will bring them down to the pit of death. Deceitful and bloodthirsty men shall not live half their days. O Lord, I will trust in you. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Lord Jesus, you were rejected by your people, betrayed by the kiss of a friend, and deserted by your disciples. Give us the confidence that you had in the Father, and our salvation will be assured. Ant. Entrust your cares to the Lord; he will sustain you. Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church. You will hear the word from my mouth. — You will tell others what I have said. READINGS First reading From the book of the prophet Isaiah 30:1-18 The futility of entering into pacts with foreign peoples Woe to the rebellious children, says the Lord, Who carry out plans that are not mine, who weave webs that are not inspired by me, adding sin upon sin. They go down to Egypt, but my counsel they do not seek. They find their strength in Pharaoh’s protection and take refuge in Egypt’s shadow; Pharaoh’s protection shall be your shame, and refuge in Egypt’s shadow your disgrace. When their princes are at Zoan and their messengers reach Hanes, All shall be ashamed of a people that gain them nothing, Neither help nor benefit, but only shame and reproach. [Oracle on the Beasts of the Negeb] Through the distressed and troubled land of the lioness and roaring lion, of the viper and flying saraph, They carry their riches on the backs of asses and their treasures on the humps of camels To a people good for nothing, to Egypt whose help is futile and vain. Therefore I call her “Rahab quelled.” Now come, write it on a tablet they can keep, inscribe it in a record; That it may be in future days an eternal witness: This is a rebellious people, deceitful children, Children who refuse to obey the law of the Lord. They say to the seers, “Have no visions”; to the prophets, “Do not descry for us what is right; speak flatteries to us, conjure up illusions. Out of the way! Out of our path! Let us hear no more of the Holy One of Israel.” Therefore, thus says the Holy One of Israel: Because you reject this word, And put your trust in what is crooked and devious, and depend on it, This guilt of yours shall be like a descending rift Bulging out in a high wall whose crash comes suddenly, in an instant. It crashes like a potter’s jar smashed beyond rescue, And among its fragments cannot be found a sherd to scoop fire from the hearth or dip water from the cistern. For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: By waiting and by calm you shall be saved, in quiet and in trust your strength lies. But this you did not wish. “No,” you said, “Upon horses we will flee.” Very well, flee! “Upon swift steeds we will ride.” Not so swift as your pursuers. A thousand shall tremble at the threat of one; if five threaten you, you shall flee, Until you are left like a flagstaff on the mountaintop, like a flag on the hill. Yet the Lord is waiting to show you favor, and he rises to pity you; For the Lord is a God of justice: blessed are all who wait for him! RESPONSORY Isaiah 30:15, 18 Turn back, be at peace, and you shall be saved. — Your strength shall lie in quiet and in trust. The Lord is waiting to show you his favor. Happy are all who trust in him. — Your strength shall lie in quiet and in trust. Second reading From the apostolic constitution Divino afflatu of Pope Saint Pius X. The song of the Church The collection of psalms found in Scripture, composed as it was under divine inspiration, has, from the very beginnings of the Church, shown a wonderful power of fostering devotion among Christians as they offer to God a continuous sacrifice of praise, the harvest of lips blessing his name. Following a custom already established in the Old Law, the psalms have played a conspicuous part in the sacred liturgy itself, and in the divine office. Thus was born what Basil calls the voice of the Church, that singing of psalms, which is the daughter of that hymn of praise (to use the words of our predecessor, Urban VIII) which goes up unceasingly before the throne of God and of the Lamb, and which teaches those especially charged with the duty of divine worship, as Athanasius says, the way to praise God, and the fitting words in which to bless him. Augustine expresses this well when he says: God praised himself so that man might give him fitting praise; because God chose to praise himself man found the way in which to bless God. The psalms have also a wonderful power to awaken in our hearts the desire for every virtue. Athanasius says: Though all Scripture, both old and new, is divinely inspired and has its use in teaching, as we read in Scripture itself, yet the Book of Psalms, like a garden enclosing the fruits of all the other books, produces its fruits in song, and in the process of singing brings forth its own special fruits to take their place beside them. In the same place Athanasius rightly adds: The psalms seem to me to be like a mirror, in which the person using them can see himself, and the stirrings of his own heart; he can recite them against the background of his own emotions. Augustine says in his Confessions: How I wept when I heard your hymns and canticles, being deeply moved by the sweet singing of your Church. Those voices flowed into my ears, truth filtered into my heart, and from my heart surged waves of devotion. Tears ran down, and I was happy in my tears. Indeed, who could fail to be moved by those many passages in the psalms which set forth so profoundly the infinite majesty of God, his omnipotence, his justice and goodness and clemency, too deep for words, and all the other infinite qualities of his that deserve our praise? Who could fail to be roused to the same emotions by the prayers of thanksgiving to God for blessings received, by the petitions, so humble and confident, for blessings still awaited, by the cries of a soul in sorrow for sin committed? Who would not be fired with love as he looks on the likeness of Christ, the redeemer, here so lovingly foretold? His was the voice Augustine heard in every psalm, the voice of praise, of suffering, of joyful expectation, of present distress. RESPONSORY 1 Thessalonians 2:4, 3 God has found us worthy to be ministers of his Gospel, and so when we speak, —we strive to please God and not men. Our preaching does not spring from error, or impure motives, or a desire to deceive. —We strive to please God and not men. CONCLUDING PRAYER O God, who to safeguard the Catholic faith and to restore all things in Christ, filled Pope Saint Pius the Tenth with heavenly wisdom and apostolic fortitude, graciously grant that, following his teaching and example, we may gain an eternal prize. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. — Amen. ACCLAMATION (at least in the communal celebration) Let us praise the Lord. — And give him thanks.

Once elevated to the see of Peter, Pastor of shepherds, servant of God's servants He was entrusted with those mystic symbols, Keys of the Kingdom. Now let us ask him for his intercession That his compassion may win us forgiveness Leading us sinners, penitent and contrite Home to the Father. PSALMODY Ant. 1 Create a clean heart in me, O God; renew in me a steadfast spirit. Psalm 51 O God, have mercy on me Your inmost being must be renewed, and you must put on the new man (Ephesians 4:23-24). Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness. In your compassion blot out my offense. O wash me more and more from my guilt and cleanse me from my sin. My offenses truly I know them; my sin is always before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned; what is evil in your sight I have done. That you may be justified when you give sentence and be without reproach when you judge, O see, in guilt I was born, a sinner was I conceived. Indeed you love truth in the heart; then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom. O purify me, then I shall be clean; O wash me, I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear rejoicing and gladness, that the bones you have crushed may revive. From my sins turn away your face and blot out all my guilt. A pure heart create for me, O God, put a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, nor deprive me of your holy spirit. Give me again the joy of your help; with a spirit of fervor sustain me, that I may teach transgressors your ways and sinners may return to you. O rescue me, God, my helper, and my tongue shall ring out your goodness. O Lord, open my lips and my mouth shall declare your praise. For in sacrifice you take no delight, burnt offering from me you would refuse, my sacrifice, a contrite spirit, A humbled, contrite heart you will not spurn. In your goodness, show favor to Zion: rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Then you will be pleased with lawful sacrifice, holocausts offered on your altar. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Father, he who knew no sin was made sin for us, to save us and restore us to your friendship. Look upon our contrite heart and afflicted spirit and heal our troubled conscience, so that in the joy and strength of the Holy Spirit we may proclaim your praise and glory before all the nations. Ant. Create a clean heart in me, O God; renew in me a steadfast spirit. Ant. 2 Rejoice, Jerusalem, for through you all men will be gathered to the Lord. Canticle – Tobit 13:8-11, 13-15 Thanksgiving for the people’s deliverance He showed me the holy city Jerusalem which shone with the glory of God (Revelation 21:10-11). Let all men speak of the Lord’s majesty, and sing his praises in Jerusalem. O Jerusalem, holy city, he scourged you for the works of your hands, but will again pity the children of the righteous. Praise the Lord for his goodness, and bless the King of the ages, so that his tent may be rebuilt in you with joy. May he gladden within you all who were captives; all who were ravaged may he cherish within you for all generations to come. A bright light will shine to all parts of the earth; many nations shall come to you from afar, And the inhabitants of all the limits of the earth, drawn to you by the name of the Lord God, Bearing in their hands their gifts for the King of heaven. Every generation shall give joyful praise in you, and shall call you the chosen one, through all ages forever. Go, then, rejoice over the children of the righteous, who shall all be gathered together and shall bless the Lord of the ages. Happy are those who love you, and happy those who rejoice in your prosperity. Happy are all the men who shall grieve over you, over all your chastisements, for they shall rejoice in you as they behold all your joy forever. My spirit blesses the Lord, the great King. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Rejoice, Jerusalem, for through you all men will be gathered to the Lord. Ant. 3 Zion, praise your God, who sent his Word to renew the earth. Psalm 147 The restoration of Jerusalem Come, I will show you the bride of the Lamb (Revelation 21:9) O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! Zion, praise your God! He has strengthened the bars of your gates, he has blessed the children within you. He established peace on your borders, he feeds you with finest wheat. He sends out his word to the earth and swiftly runs his command. He showers down snow white as wool, he scatters hoar-frost like ashes. He hurls down hailstones like crumbs. The waters are frozen at his touch; he sends forth his word and it melts them: at the breath of his mouth the waters flow. He makes his word known to Jacob, to Israel his laws and decrees. He has not dealt thus with other nations; he has not taught them his decrees. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer All powerful God, it is through your Church, generously endowed with gifts of grace and fortified by the Holy Spirit, that you send out your word to all nations. Strengthen your Church with the best of all food and make it dauntless in faith. Multiply its children to celebrate with one accord the mysteries of your love at the altar on high. Ant. Zion, praise your God, who sent his Word to renew the earth. READING Hebrews 13:7-9a Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you; consider how their lives ended, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teaching. Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church. RESPONSORY On your walls, Jerusalem, I have set my watchmen to guard you. — On your walls, Jerusalem, I have set my watchmen to guard you. Day or night, they will not cease to proclaim the name of the Lord. — I have set my watchmen to guard you. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, — On your walls, Jerusalem, I have set my watchmen to guard you. CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH Ant. What you say of me does not come from yourselves; it is the Spirit of my Father speaking in you. Luke 1:68 – 79 The Messiah and his forerunner Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to his people and set them free. He has raised up for us a mighty savior, born of the house of his servant David. Through his holy prophets he promised of old that he would save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us. He promised to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant. This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship him without fear, holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life. You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, to give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins. In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. What you say of me does not come from yourselves; it is the Spirit of my Father speaking in you. INTERCESSIONS Christ is the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep. Let us praise and thank him as we pray: Nourish your people, Lord. Christ, you decided to show your merciful love through your holy shepherds, — let your mercy always reach us through them. Nourish your people, Lord. Through your vicars you continue to perform the ministry of shepherd of souls, — direct us always through our leaders. Nourish your people, Lord. Through your holy ones, the leaders of your people, you served as physician of our bodies and our spirits, — continue to fulfill your ministry of life and holiness in us. Nourish your people, Lord. You taught your flock through the prudence and love of your saints, — grant us continual growth in holiness under the direction of our pastors. Nourish your people, Lord. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. — Amen. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for fighting. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. I cried out, and the Lord heard me. Ant. 2 May the Lord watch over you as you come and as you go. Psalm 121 Guardian of his people Never again will they hunger and thirst, never again know scorching heat (Revelation 7:16) I lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall come my help? My help shall come from the Lord who made heaven and earth. May he never allow you to stumble! Let him sleep not, your guard. No, he sleeps not nor slumbers, Israel’s guard. The Lord is your guard and your shade; at your right side he stands. By day the sun shall not smite you nor the moon in the night. The Lord will guard you from evil, he will guard your soul. The Lord will guard your going and coming both now and for ever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. May the Lord watch over you as you come and as you go. Ant. 3 I rejoiced in the good news they told me. Psalm 122 The holy city, Jerusalem You have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem (Hebrews 12:22) I rejoiced when I heard them say: Let us go to God’s house. And now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is built as a city strongly compact. It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord. For Israel’s law it is, there to praise the Lord’s name. There were set the thrones of judgment of the house of David. For the peace of Jerusalem pray: “Peace be to your homes! May peace reign in your walls, in your palaces, peace!” For love of my brethren and friends I say: Peace upon you. For love of the house of the Lord I will ask for your good. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. I rejoiced in the good news they told me. READING Romans 12:17a, 19b, 20a, 21 Never repay injury with injury; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” But, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good. Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) A moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church. The Lord’s mercy has never failed; it will endure for ever. — Unswerving his fidelity to those who obey him. CONCLUDING PRAYER Lord Jesus Christ, at this hour you were led out to die on the cross for the salvation of the world. We ask your forgiveness for the sins of our past and your protection from all future evil. Bring us to the peace and joy of that kingdom where you live and reign for ever and ever. — Amen. ACCLAMATION (only added when praying in community) Let us praise the Lord. — And give him thanks.

Psalm 119 XXI (Shin) Though princes oppress me without cause I stand in awe of your word. I take delight in your promise like one who finds a treasure. Lies I hate and detest but your law is my love. Seven times a day I praise you for your just decrees. The lovers of your law have great peace; they never stumble. I await your saving help, O Lord, I fulfill your commands. My soul obeys your will and loves it dearly. I obey your precepts and your will; all that I do is before you. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer There is great peace, Lord, for those who love your law; they never stumble. Grant that those who love you above all else may be undisturbed by thoughts of evil. Ant. Lord, great is the peace of those who love your law. Ant. 2 The assembly of believers had but one mind and heart. Psalm 133 Joy when hearts are united in love Let us love one another, for love is of God (1 John 4:7). How good and how pleasant it is, when brothers live in unity! It is like precious oil upon the head running down upon the beard, running down upon Aaron’s beard, upon the collar of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon which falls on the heights of Zion. For there the Lord gives his blessing, life for ever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Pour out over your Church, Lord, the spirit of brotherly love and a longing for your peace. May this precious oil of the Holy Spirit flow over us to fill us with your gracious benediction. Ant. The assembly of believers had but one mind and heart. Ant. 3 Save me from the grasp of the sinner, O Lord, my saving power. Psalm 140 Lord, you are my refuge The Son of Man will be handed over to wicked men (Matthew 26:45). Rescue me, Lord, from evil men; from the violent keep me safe, from those who plan evil in their hearts and stir up strife every day; who sharpen their tongue like an adder’s, with the poison of viper on their lips. Lord, guard me from the hands of the wicked; from the violent keep me safe; they plan to make me stumble. The proud have hidden a trap, have spread out lines in a net, set snares across my path. I have said to the Lord: “You are my God.” Lord, hear the cry of my appeal! Lord my God, my mighty help, you shield my head in battle. Do not grant the wicked their desire nor let their plots succeed. I know that the Lord will avenge the poor, that he will do justice for the needy. Yes, the just will praise your name: the upright shall live in your presence. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Lord, you keep constant guard over your faithful people. Protect us from hidden snares and make us holy, that we may praise and bless your name and live in righteousness before you. Ant. Save me from the grasp of the sinner, O Lord, my saving power. READING 1 John 3:16 The way we came to understand love was that he laid down his life for us; we too must lay down our lives for our brothers. Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church. Give thanks to the Lord. — For his great love is without end. CONCLUDING PRAYER Lord Jesus Christ, at noon, when darkness covered all the earth, you mounted the wood of the cross as the innocent victim for our redemption. May your light be always with us to guide us to eternal life in that kingdom where you live and reign for ever and ever. — Amen. ACCLAMATION (only added when praying in community) Let us praise the Lord. — And give him thanks.

PSALMODY Ant. 1 The Lord has done great things for us; he is the source of all our joy. Psalm 126 Joyful hope in God Companions with him in suffering, you will share his over-flowing happiness (2 Corinthians 1:7) When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage, it seemed like a dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, on our lips there were songs. The heathens themselves said: “What marvels the Lord worked for them!” What marvels the Lord worked for us! Indeed we were glad. Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage as streams in dry land. Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap. They go out, they go out, full of tears, carrying seed for the sowing: they come back, they come back, full of song, carrying their sheaves Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. The Lord has done great things for us; he is the source of all our joy. Ant. 2 May the Lord build our house and watch over our city. Psalm 127 Apart from God our labors are worthless You are God’s building (1 Corinthians 3:9) If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do its builders labor; if the Lord does not watch over the city, in vain does the watchman keep vigil. In vain is your earlier rising, your going later to rest, you who toil for the bread you eat, when he pours gifts on his beloved while they slumber. Truly sons are a gift from the Lord, a blessing, the fruit of the womb. Indeed the sons of youth are like arrows in the hand of a warrior. O the happiness of the man who has filled his quiver with these arrows! He will have no cause for shame when he disputes with his foes in the gateways. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. May the Lord build our house and watch over our city. Ant. 3 Blessed are those who fear the Lord. Psalm 128 Happiness of family life rooted in God “May the Lord bless you from Zion,” that is, from the Church (Arnobius) O blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways! By the labor of your hands you shall eat. You will be happy and prosper; your wife like a fruitful vine in the heart of your house; Your children like shoots of the olive, around your table. Indeed thus shall be blessed the man who fears the Lord. May the Lord bless you from Zion all the days of your life! May you see your children’s children in a happy Jerusalem! On Israel, peace! Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Blessed are those who fear the Lord. READING 1 John 4:9-11 God’s love was revealed in our midst in this way: He sent his only son into the world that we might have life through him. Love, then, consists in this: not that we have loved God, but that he has loved us and sent his son as an offering for our sins. Beloved, if God has loved us so, we must have this same love for one another. Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) A moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church. Look on us, O strong protector — and see the face of your Christ. CONCLUDING PRAYER Lord Jesus Christ, you brought the repentant thief from the suffering of the cross to the joy of your kingdom. Lord, when we die, may we who confess our sins be brought to you through the gates of heaven, that we may have eternal joy in that kingdom where you live and reign for ever and ever. — Amen. ACCLAMATION (only added when praying in community) Let us praise the Lord. — And give him thanks.

PSALMODY Ant. 1 Day after day I will bless you, Lord; I will tell of your marvelous deeds. Psalm 145 Praise of God’s majesty Lord, you are the Just One, who was and who is (Revelation 16:5). I I will give you glory, O God my king, I will bless your name for ever. I will bless you day after day and praise your name for ever. The Lord is great, highly to be praised, his greatness cannot be measured. Age to age shall proclaim your works, shall declare your mighty deeds, shall speak of your splendor and glory, tell the tale of your wonderful works. They will speak of your terrible deeds, recount your greatness and might. They will recall your abundant goodness; age to age shall ring out your justice. The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love. How good is the Lord to all, compassionate to all his creatures. All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord, and your friends shall repeat their blessing. They shall speak of the glory of your reign and declare your might, O God, to make known to all your mighty deeds and the glorious splendor of your reign. Yours is an everlasting kingdom; your rule lasts from age to age. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Day after day I will bless you, Lord; I will tell of your marvelous deeds. Ant. 2 To you alone, Lord, we look with confidence; you are ever close to those who call upon you. II The Lord is faithful in all his words and loving in all his deeds. The Lord supports all who fall and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all creatures look to you and you give them their food in due time. You open wide your hand, grant the desires of all who live. The Lord is just in all his ways and loving in all his deeds. He is close to all who call him, who call on him from their hearts. He grants the desires of those who fear him, he hears their cry and he saves them. The Lord protects all who love him; but the wicked he will utterly destroy. Let me speak the praise of the Lord, let all peoples bless his holy name for ever, for ages unending. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Lord, be near to all who call upon you in truth and increase the dedication of those who revere you. Hear their prayers and save them that they may always love you and praise your holy name. Ant. To you alone, Lord, we look with confidence; you are ever close to those who call upon you. Ant. 3 King of all the ages, your ways are perfect and true. Canticle – Revelation 15:3-4 Hymn of adoration Mighty and wonderful are your works, Lord God Almighty! Righteous and true are your ways, O King of the nations! Who would dare refuse you honor, or the glory due your name, O Lord? Since you alone are holy, all nations shall come and worship in your presence. Your mighty deeds are clearly seen. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. King of all the ages, your ways are perfect and true. READING 1 Peter 5:1-4 To the elders among you I, a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings and sharer in the glory that is to be revealed, make this appeal. God’s flock is in your midst; give it a shepherd’s care. Watch over it willingly as God would have you do, not under constraint; and not for shameful profit either, but generously. Be examples to the flock, not lording it over those assigned to you, so that when the chief Shepherd appears you will win for yourselves the unfading crown of glory. Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) A moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church. RESPONSORY This is a man who loved his brethren and ever prayed for them. — This is a man who loved his brethren and ever prayed for them. He spent himself in their service, — and ever prayed for them. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, —This is a man who loved his brethren and ever prayed for them. CANTICLE OF MARY Ant. This is a faithful and wise steward: the Lord entrusted the care of his household to him, so that he might give them their portion of food at the proper season. Luke 1:46-55 The soul rejoices in the Lord My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. This is a faithful and wise steward: the Lord entrusted the care of his household to him, so that he might give them their portion of food at the proper season. INTERCESSIONS Jesus Christ is worthy of all praise, for he was appointed high priest among men and their representative before God. We honor him and in our weakness we pray: Bring salvation to your people, Lord. You marvelously illuminated your Church through distinguished leaders and holy men and women, — let Christians rejoice always in such splendor. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. You forgave the sins of your people when their holy leaders like Moses sought your compassion, — through their intercession continue to purify and sanctify your holy people. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. In the midst of their brothers and sisters you anointed your holy ones and filled them with the Holy Spirit, — fill all the leaders of your people with the same Spirit. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. You yourself are the only visible possession of our holy pastors, — let none of them, won at the price of your blood, remain far from you. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. The shepherds of your Church keep your flock from being snatched out of your hand. Through them you give your flock eternal life, — save those who have died, those for whom you gave up your life. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. — Amen. DISMISSAL May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. — Amen.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia. Examination of conscience: We are called to have a clear conscience toward God and toward men, in our hearts and in our minds, in our actions and inactions. To do so, it is vital that we examine our conscience daily and to ask for God’s mercy as we fall short and to ask for His strength to do better. I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,    And, striking your breast, say: through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;    Then continue: therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.    With a priest present, this absolution will be given: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.    The people reply: Amen HYMNO gladsome Light, O grace of God the Father's face, the eternal splendor wearing; celestial, holy, blest, our Savior Jesus Christ, joyful in thine appearing. Psalm 88 Prayer of a sick person This is your hour when darkness reigns (Luke 22:53). Lord my God, I call for help by day; I cry at night before you. Let my prayer come into your presence. O turn your ear to my cry. For my soul is filled with evils; my life is on the brink of the grave. I am reckoned as one in the tomb; I have reached the end of my strength, Like one alone among the dead, like the slain lying in their graves, like those you remember no more, cut off, as they are, from your hand. You have laid me in the depths of the tomb, in places that are dark, in the depths. Your anger weighs down upon me; I am drowned beneath your waves. You have taken away my friends and made me hateful in their sight. Imprisoned, I cannot escape; my eyes are sunken with grief. I call to you, Lord, all the day long; to you I stretch out my hands. Will you work your wonders for the dead? Will the shades stand and praise you? Will your love be told in the grave or your faithfulness among the dead? Will your wonders be known in the dark or your justice in the land of oblivion? As for me, Lord, I call to you for help; in the morning my prayer comes before you. Lord, why do you reject me? Why do you hide your face? Wretched, close to death from my youth, I have borne your trials; I am numb. Your fury has swept down upon me; your terrors have utterly destroyed me. They surround me all the day like a flood, they assail me all together. Friend and neighbor you have taken away: my one companion is darkness. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Day and night I cry to you, my God. READING Jeremiah 14:9a You are in our midst, O Lord, your name we bear: do not forsake us, O Lord, our God! RESPONSORY Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit. — Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit. You have redeemed us, Lord God of truth. — I commend my spirit. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, — Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit. Gospel Canticle Ant. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. Luke 2:29-32 Christ is the light of the nations and the glory of Israel Lord, now you let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled: my own eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared in the sight of every people: a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people Israel. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. Concluding Prayer All-powerful God keep us united with your Son in his death and burial so that we may rise to new life with him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. — Amen. Blessing May the all-powerful Lord grant us a restful night and a peaceful death. — Amen. Antiphon or song in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.
  • August 21st, 2026 – The Liturgy of the Hours, Second Edition: What We Know So Far – Divine Office: Liturgy of the Hours 20.08.2026
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, For many years now, we have shared updates with you about the long-awaited Second Edition of the Liturgy of the Hours — the first major revision of the Church’s official daily prayer in the United States in more than fifty years. This year, that long journey has reached a major milestone and is now approaching its end. Where Things Stand In October 2025, the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments confirmed the new English translation for liturgical use in the United States. Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, President of the USCCB, then signed a decree of promulgation establishing two important dates: Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2027, will be the first-use date — the day the Second Edition becomes lawful for use. The First Sunday of Advent, December 3, 2028, will be the mandatory-use date — the day the current translation is retired. Between these two dates lies a period of transition, sometimes called a vacatio legis, during which the faithful and clergy alike may continue praying with their current volumes while the new edition becomes available. Can I Keep Praying With My Current Books? This is a question we hear often, the answer is Yes, for most of you, nothing changes right away. Between Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2027 (the first-use date) and the First Sunday of Advent, December 3, 2028 (the mandatory-use date), your current four-volume set remains entirely valid for prayer. You are not required to buy the new edition the moment it becomes available. The distinction that matters is between obligation and devotion: If you are a priest, deacon, or religious bound by canon law to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, the current translation continues to fulfill that obligation right up until the mandatory-use date. Starting December 3, 2028, the Second Edition will be required for you. If you are a layperson praying the Hours as an act of personal devotion, you are not bound by that same canonical obligation, so nothing forces you to purchase the new set on any particular date. You are free to continue praying with the volumes you already have. That said, we do encourage everyone — clergy, religious, and laity alike — to plan on transitioning to the Second Edition by the mandatory-use date, the First Sunday of Advent, December 3, 2028. Praying the same texts as the rest of the Church, in the same words at the same hours, is part of what makes the Liturgy of the Hours a shared, public prayer of the whole Body of Christ rather than a private devotion. We are not in a position to encourage an earlier move: as of this writing, the USCCB has not yet established a licensing model for digital editions of the Second Edition, so we do not yet have the rights to publish the new text on DivineOffice.org. We are hopeful that a digital licensing path will be in place well before the 2028 deadline, at which point we intend to make the new text available and begin the work of recording new audio for the Second Edition. Two Publishers, Four Volumes The USCCB has selected Ascension Press and Word on Fire Publishing as the exclusive publishers of the new four-volume breviary. Both have opened pre-orders since July 1, 2026, beginning with Volume II, covering Lent and Easter — fittingly, the first volume needed for the Ash Wednesday first-use date. The remaining three volumes are expected to follow throughout the year, with the complete four-volume set anticipated by the end of 2027. Bundles for preordering the Full 4-Volume are also available. Four additional publishers have also been selected to produce single-volume “major extracts” — editions containing Lauds, Vespers, and Compline — for those who do not need the full four-volume breviary for daily prayer. What About Digital and Audio Formats? This is a question many of you have asked us directly, since so much of what we do here at DivineOffice.org depends on digital text and recorded audio. The answer is that the USCCB has not yet announced a timeline for digital or alternative formats. The Bishops’ Conference has stated only that availability will be determined and shared at a later date. We hope and pray that these details will be resolved in a way that lets us continue the mission many of you have come to depend on and that we have carried for nearly twenty years now, bringing the Liturgy of the Hours to everyone in the United States and the world. Especially our visually, hearing impaired, homebound brothers and sisters who pray with us through our audio or the accessible versions. A word about the Spanish version Some of you have also asked whether this new translation affects our own Spanish Liturgy of the Hours project. It does not. The USCCB’s Second Edition is an English-language undertaking, and the USCCB has not confirmed a Spanish edition of its own. Existing Spanish translations approved by other bishops’ conferences remain entirely valid for prayer, and our work on recording the Liturgy of the Hours in Spanish continues on its own path, independent of this transition. Continuing to Walk Together We know many of you have waited a long time for this new edition, and we share your anticipation. As always, we will continue to follow the USCCB’s official announcements closely and share verified updates with you as they come. Many of you know the many obstacles this work has overcome in 20 years of existence. God willing, we will do so for many more. The current translation will be maintained and updated as until now through website, podcasts and apps and every effort will be made to sustain and expand our mission in the world. Thank you for praying with us, today and always. The Divine Office Team
  • August 22nd, 2026 – This Week: How I Long to See the Flame Leap Up – Divine Office: Liturgy of the Hours 20.08.2026
  • August 22nd, 2026 – About Today – Divine Office: Liturgy of the Hours 20.08.2026
August 22 The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary Memorial “So Bathshe’ba went to King Solomon, to speak to him on behalf of Adoni’jah. And the king rose to meet her, and bowed down to her; then he sat on his throne, and had a seat brought for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right. Then she said, ‘I have one small request to make of you; do not refuse me.’ And the king said to her, ‘Make your request, my mother; for I will not refuse you,’” (1Kings 2:19-20). [1] Although this feast was introduced only in recent times, Mary is depicted in Christian art as a queen already in the sixth century. In two well-known twelfth-century hymns, Mary is saluted: “Hail, O Queen, mother of mercy” and “Hail, Queen of the heavens.” The Christian imagination sees Mary assumed into the royal court of heaven. Her Son joyously greets her. She is welcomed by choirs of angels and a crowd of saints. In filial love Christ crowns Our Lady as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Through her faith and charity she became the Mother of the Savior (Luke 2). She, the New Eve, crushes the head of the serpent (Gen 3:15). On her head is a crown of twelve stars (Rev. 12:1), and from this exalted position, Our Heavenly Mother aids the Church by her prayers of love and mercy. Lord, open my lips. — And my mouth will proclaim your praise. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ who crowned his mother as Queen of heaven and earth. Psalm 95 Come, let us sing to the Lord and shout with joy to the Rock who saves us. Let us approach him with praise and thanksgiving and sing joyful songs to the Lord. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ who crowned his mother as Queen of heaven and earth. The Lord is God, the mighty God, the great king over all the gods. He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the highest mountains as well He made the sea; it belongs to him, the dry land, too, for it was formed by his hands. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ who crowned his mother as Queen of heaven and earth. Come, then, let us bow down and worship, bending the knee before the Lord, our maker, For he is our God and we are his people, the flock he shepherds. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ who crowned his mother as Queen of heaven and earth. Today, listen to the voice of the Lord: Do not grow stubborn, as your fathers did in the wilderness, when at Meriba and Massah they challenged me and provoked me, Although they had seen all of my works. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ who crowned his mother as Queen of heaven and earth. Forty years I endured that generation. I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray and they do not know my ways.” So I swore in my anger, “They shall not enter into my rest.” Ant. Come, let us worship Christ who crowned his mother as Queen of heaven and earth. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Come, let us worship Christ who crowned his mother as Queen of heaven and earth.

English Translation Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. 𝄞"Ave Maria" by Melinda Kirigin-Voss • Title: Ave Maria; Composer: Franz Schubert; Artist: Melinda Kirigin-Voss; Used with permission PSALMODY Ant. 1 The Lord summons heaven and earth to witness his judgment on his people. Psalm 50 Genuine love of God I have come not to abolish the law but to bring it to perfection (see Matthew 5:17). I The God of gods, the Lord, has spoken and summoned the earth, from the rising of the sun to its setting. Out of Zion’s perfect beauty he shines. Our God comes, he keeps silence no longer. Before him fire devours, around him tempest rages. He calls on the heavens and the earth to witness his judgment of his people. “Summon before me my people who made covenant with me by sacrifice.” The heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself is the judge. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. The Lord summons heaven and earth to witness his judgment on his people. Ant. 2 Come to me in your distress, and I will save you. II “Listen, my people, I will speak; Israel, I will testify against you, for I am God your God. I accuse you, lay the charge before you. I find no fault with your sacrifices, your offerings are always before me. I do not ask more bullocks from your farms, nor goats from among your herds. For I own all the beasts of the forest, beasts in their thousands on my hills. I know all the birds in the sky, all that moves in the field belongs to me. Were I hungry, I would not tell you, for I own the world and all it holds. Do you think I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? Pay your sacrifice of thanksgiving to God and render him your votive offerings. Call on me in the day of distress. I will free you and you shall honor me.” Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Come to me in your distress, and I will save you. Ant. 3 A sacrifice of praise will give me glory. III But God says to the wicked: “But how can you recite my commandments and take my covenant on your lips, you who despise my law and throw my words to the winds, you who see a thief and go with him; who throw in your lot with adulterers, who unbridle your mouth for evil and whose tongue is plotting crime, you who sit and malign your brother and slander your own mother’s son. You do this, and should I keep silence? Do you think that I am like you? Mark this, you who never think of God, lest I seize you and you cannot escape; a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors me and I will show God’s salvation to the upright.” Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Father, because Jesus, your servant, became obedient even unto death, his sacrifice was greater than all holocausts of old. Accept the sacrifice of praise we offer you through him and may we show the effects of it in our lives by striving to do your will until our whole life becomes adoration in Spirit and truth. Ant. A sacrifice of praise will give me glory. Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church. Blessed are those who hear the word of God. — And cherish it in their hearts. READINGS First reading From the book of the prophet Isaiah 37:21-35 Isaiah prophesies about the Assyrian king Isaiah, son of Amoz, sent this message to Hezekiah: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: In answer to your prayer for help against Sennacherib, king of Assyria, this is the word the Lord has spoken concerning him: She despises you, laughs you to scorn, the virgin daughter Zion; Behind you she wags her head, daughter Jerusalem. Whom have you insulted and blasphemed, against whom have you raised your voice And lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel! Through your servants you have insulted the Lord: You said, “With my many chariots I climbed the mountain heights, the recesses of Lebanon; I cut down its lofty cedars, its choice cypresses; I reached the remotest heights, its forest park. I dug wells and drank water in foreign lands; I dried up with the soles of my feet all the rivers of Egypt.” Have you not heard? Long ago I prepared it, From days of old I planned it, now I have brought it to pass: That you should reduce fortified cities into heaps of ruins, While their inhabitants, shorn of power, are dismayed and ashamed, Becoming like the plants of the field, like the green growth, like the scorched grass on the housetops. I am aware whether you stand or sit; I know whether you come or go, and also your rage against me. Because of your rage against me and your fury which has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and make you return the way you came. This shall be a sign for you: this year you shall eat the aftergrowth, next year, what grows of itself; But in the third year, sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit! The remaining survivors of the house of Judah shall again strike root below and bear fruit above. For out of Jerusalem shall come a remnant, and from Mount Zion, survivors. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this. Therefore, thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not reach this city, nor shoot an arrow at it, nor come before it with a shield, nor cast up siegeworks against it. He shall return by the same way he came, without entering the city, says the Lord. I will shield and save this city for my own sake, and for the sake of my servant David. RESPONSORY Isaiah 52:9-10 The Lord has comforted his people; he has redeemed Jerusalem, — and all the ends of the earth shall see the saving power of God. The Lord has bared his holy arm in the sight of all the nations. — And all the ends of the earth shall see the saving power of God. Second reading From a homily by Saint Amadeus of Lausanne, bishop Queen of the world and of peace Observe how fitting it was that even before her assumption the name of Mary shone forth wondrously throughout the world. Her fame spread everywhere even before she was raised above the heavens in her magnificence. Because of the honor due her Son, it was indeed fitting for the Virgin Mother to have first ruled upon earth and then be raised up to heaven in glory. It was fitting that her fame be spread in this world below, so that she might enter the heights of heaven in overwhelming blessedness. Just as she was borne from virtue to virtue by the Spirit of the Lord, she was transported from earthly renown to heavenly brightness. So it was that she began to taste the fruits of her future reign while still in the flesh. At one moment she withdrew to God in ecstasy; at the next she would bend down to her neighbors with indescribable love. In heaven angels served her, while here on earth she was venerated by the service of men. Gabriel and the angels waited upon her in heaven. The virgin John, rejoicing that the Virgin Mother was entrusted to him at the cross, cared for her with the other apostles here below. The angels rejoiced to see their queen; the apostles rejoiced to see their lady, and both obeyed her with loving devotion. Dwelling in the loftiest citadel of virtue, like a sea of divine grace or an unfathomable source of love that has everywhere overflowed its banks, she poured forth her bountiful waters on trusting and thirsting souls. Able to preserve both flesh and spirit from death she bestowed health-giving salve on bodies and souls. Has anyone ever come away from her troubled or saddened or ignorant of the heavenly mysteries? Who has not returned to everyday life gladdened and joyful because his request had been granted by the Mother of God? She is a bride, so gentle and affectionate, and the mother of the only true bridegroom. In her abundant goodness she has channeled the spring of reason’s garden, the well of living and life-giving waters that pour forth in a rushing stream from divine Lebanon and flow down from Mount Zion until they surround the shores of every far-flung nation. With divine assistance she has redirected these waters and made them into streams of peace and pools of grace. Therefore, when the Virgin of virgins was led forth by God and her Son, the King of kings, amid the company of exulting angels and rejoicing archangels, with the heavens ringing with praise, the prophecy of the psalmist was fulfilled, in which he said to the Lord: At your right hand stands the queen, clothed in gold of Ophir. RESPONSORY A great sign appeared in the heavens: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, — and upon her head a crown of twelve stars. The queen clothed in cloth of gold, stood on your right hand. — And upon her head a crown of twelve stars. CONCLUDING PRAYER O God, who made the Mother of your Son to be our Mother and our Queen, graciously grant that, sustained by her intercession, we may attain in the heavenly Kingdom the glory promised to your children. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. — Amen. ACCLAMATION (at least in the communal celebration) Let us praise the Lord. — And give him thanks.

Psalm 92 Praise of God the Creator Sing in praise of Christ’s redeeming work (Saint Athanasius). It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your truth in the watches of the night, on the ten-stringed lyre and the lute, with the murmuring sound of the harp. Your deeds, O Lord, have made me glad; for the work of your hands I shout with joy. O Lord, how great are your works! How deep are your designs! The foolish man cannot know this and the fool cannot understand. Though the wicked spring up like grass and all who do evil thrive: they are doomed to be eternally destroyed. But you, Lord, are eternally on high. See how your enemies perish; all doers of evil are scattered. To me you give the wild ox’s strength; you anoint me with the purest oil. My eyes looked in triumph on my foes; my ears heard gladly of their fall. The just will flourish like the palm-tree and grow like a Lebanon cedar. Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God, still bearing fruit when they are old, still full of sap, still green, to proclaim that the Lord is just. In him, my rock, there is no wrong. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Take our shame away from us, Lord, and make us rejoice in your saving works. May all who have been chosen by your Son always abound in works of faith, hope, and love in your service. Ant. We do well to sing to your name, Most High, and proclaim your mercy at daybreak. Ant.2 I will create a new heart in you, and breathe into you a new spirit. Canticle – Ezekiel 36:24-28 The Lord will renew his people They will be his own people, and God himself will be with them, their own God (Revelation 21:3). I will take you away from among the nations, gather you from all the foreign lands, and bring you back to your own land. I will sprinkle clean water upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees. You shall live in the land I gave your fathers; you shall be my people, and I will be your God. I will create a new heart in you, and breathe into you a new spirit. Ant. 3 On the lips of children and infants you have found perfect praise. Psalm 8 The majesty of the Lord and man’s dignity The Father gave Christ lordship of creation and made him head of the Church (Ephesians 1:22). How great is your name, O Lord our God, through all the earth! Your majesty is praised above the heavens; on the lips of children and of babes you have found praise to foil your enemy, to silence the foe and the rebel. When I see the heavens, the work of your hands, the moon and the stars which you arranged, what is man that you should keep him in mind, mortal man that you care for him? Yet you have made him little less than a god; with glory and honor you crowned him, gave him power over the works of your hands, put all things under his feet. All of them, sheep and cattle, yes, even the savage beasts, birds of the air, and fish that make their way through the waters. How great is your name, O Lord our God through all the earth! Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Almighty Lord, how wonderful is your name. You have made every creature subject to you; make us worthy to give you service. Ant. On the lips of children and infants you have found perfect praise. CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH Ant. Mary, ever-virgin, most honored Queen of the world, you gave birth to our Savior, Christ the Lord. Amen. Ant. Mary, ever-virgin, most honored Queen of the world, you gave birth to our Savior, Christ the Lord. INTERCESSIONS Let us glorify our Savior, who chose the Virgin Mary for his mother. Let us ask him: May your mother intercede for us, Lord. Sun of Justice, the immaculate Virgin was the white dawn announcing your rising, — grant that we may always live in the light of your coming. May your mother intercede for us, Lord. Eternal Word, you chose Mary as the uncorrupted ark of your dwelling place, — free us from the corruption of sin. May your mother intercede for us, Lord. Savior of mankind, your mother stood at the foot of your cross, — grant, through her intercession, that we may rejoice to share in your passion. May your mother intercede for us, Lord. With ultimate generosity and love, you gave Mary as a mother to your beloved disciple, — help us to live as worthy sons of so noble a mother. May your mother intercede for us, Lord. — Amen. DISMISSAL May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. — Amen.

Breathe on me, Breath of God, so shall I never die, but live with thee the perfect life of thine eternity. 𝄞"O Breathe on Me, Breath of God" by Jane Chifley And Pat McGrath • Musical Score • Title: Breathe on Me, Breath of God; Text: Edwin Hatch, 1835-1889; Music: Robert Jackson, 1842-1914; Tune: TRENTHAM, Meter: SM; Artist: Jane Chifley And Pat McGrath; Used by permission PSALMODY Ant. 1 I cried out, and the Lord heard me. Psalm 120 Longing for peace To the Lord in the hour of my distress I call and he answers me. “O Lord, save my soul from lying lips, from the tongue of the deceitful.” What shall he pay you in return, O treacherous tongue? The warrior’s arrows sharpened and coals, red-hot, blazing. Alas, that I abide a stranger in Meshech, dwell among the tents of Kedar! Long enough have I been dwelling with those who hate peace. READING Daniel 6:27b-28a Our God is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be without end. HYMNDown the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem that day The soldiers tried to clear the narrow street But the crowd pressed in to see The Man condemned to die on Calvary. He was bleeding from a beating, there were stripes upon His back And He wore a crown of thorns upon His head And He bore with every step The scorn of those who cried out for His death. Down the Via Dolorosa called the way of suffering Like a lamb came the Messiah, Christ the King, But He chose to walk that road out of His love for you and me Down the Via Dolorosa, all the way to Calvary. Por la Via Dolorosa, que es la via del dolor Como oveja vino Cristo, Rey, Señor Y fue El quién quiso ir por su amor por ti y por mi Por la Via Dolorosa al Calvario y a morir The blood that would cleanse the souls of all men Made its way through the heart of Jerusalem. PSALMODY Ant. 1 I have chosen to do your will; may your hand be always there to strengthen me. Psalm 119 XXII (Tau) Lord, let my cry come before you: teach me by your word. Let my pleading come before you; save me by your promise. Let my lips proclaim your praise because you teach me your commands. Let my tongue sing your promise for your commands are just. Let your hand be ready to help me, since I have chosen your precepts. Lord, I long for your saving help and your law is my delight. Give life to my soul that I may praise you. Let your decrees give me help. I am lost like a sheep; seek your servant for I remember your commands. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Lord, grant that we should always offer you the hymns you have made; then we will live to praise you and never forget your commands. Ant. I have chosen to do your will; may your hand be always there to strengthen me. Ant. 2 Your throne stands firm, O God, for ever. Psalm 45 The marriage of the king The Bridegroom is here; go out and welcome him (Matthew 25:6). I My heart overflows with noble words. To the king I must speak the song I have made; my tongue as nimble as the pen of a scribe. You are the fairest of the children of men and graciousness is poured upon your lips: because God has blessed you for evermore. O mighty one, gird your sword upon your thigh; in splendor and state, ride on in triumph for the cause of truth and goodness and right. Take aim with your bow in your dread right hand. Your arrows are sharp: peoples fall beneath you. The foes of the king fall down and lose heart. Your throne, O God, shall endure for ever. A scepter of justice is the scepter of your kingdom. Your love is for justice; your hatred for evil. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above other kings: your robes are fragrant with aloes and myrrh. From the ivory palace you are greeted with music. The daughters of kings are among your loved ones. On your right stands the queen in gold of Ophir. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Your throne stands firm, O God, for ever. Ant. 3 I saw the new Jerusalem, beautiful as a bride adorned to meet her husband. II Listen, O daughter, give ear to my words: forget your own people and your father’s house. So will the king desire your beauty: he is your lord, pay homage to him. And the people of Tyre shall come with gifts, the richest of the people shall seek your favor. The daughter of the king is clothed with splendor, her robes embroidered with pearls set in gold. She is led to the king with her maiden companions. They are escorted amid gladness and joy; they pass within the palace of the king. Sons shall be yours in place of your fathers: you will make them princes over all the earth. May this song make your name for ever remembered. May the peoples praise you from age to age. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer When you took on flesh, Lord Jesus, you made a marriage of mankind with God. Help us to be faithful to your word and endure our exile bravely, until we are called to the heavenly marriage feast, to which the Virgin Mary, exemplar of your Church, has preceded us. Ant. I saw the new Jerusalem, beautiful as a bride adorned to meet her husband. READING Romans 15:5-7 May God, the source of all patience and encouragement, enable you to live in perfect harmony with one another according to the spirit of Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and voice you may glorify God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. READING Philippians 4:8-9b My brothers, your thoughts should be wholly directed to all that is true, all that deserves respect, all that is honest, pure, admirable, decent, virtuous or worthy of praise. I delight to praise you, O God, my king — Throughout eternity I will bless you. Grant this through Christ our Lord. — Amen. ACCLAMATION (only added when praying in community) Let us praise the Lord. — And give him thanks.

HYMNCreator of the earth and sky, Ruling the firmament on high, Clothing the day with robes of light, Blessing with gracious sleep the night. That rest may comfort weary men, And brace to useful toil again, And soothe awhile the troubled mind, And sorrow's heavy load unbind. Day sinks; we thank Thee for Thy gift; Night comes; and once again we lift Our prayer and vows and hymns that we Against all ills may shielded be. Psalm 141 A prayer when in danger An angel stood before the face of God, thurible in hand. The fragrant incense soaring aloft was the prayer of God’s people on earth (Revelation 8:4). I have called to you, Lord; hasten to help me! Hear my voice when I cry to you. Let my prayer arise before you like incense, the raising of my hands like an evening oblation. Ant. Like burning incense, Lord, let my prayer rise up to you. Set, O Lord, a guard over my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips! Do not turn my heart to things that are wrong, to evil deeds with men who are sinners. Ant. Like burning incense, Lord, let my prayer rise up to you. Never allow me to share in their feasting. If a good man strikes or reproves me it is kindness; but let the oil of the wicked not anoint my head. Let my prayer be ever against their malice. Ant. Like burning incense, Lord, let my prayer rise up to you. Their princes were thrown down by the side of the rock: then they understood that my words were kind. As a millstone is shattered to pieces on the ground, so their bones were strewn at the mouth of the grave. Ant. Like burning incense, Lord, let my prayer rise up to you. To you, Lord God, my eyes are turned: in you I take refuge; spare my soul! From the trap they have laid for me keep me safe: keep me from the snares of those who do evil. Ant. Like burning incense, Lord, let my prayer rise up to you. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Lord, from the rising of the sun to its setting your name is worthy of all praise. Let our prayer come like incense before you. May the lifting up of our hands be as an evening sacrifice acceptable to you, Lord our God. Ant. Like burning incense, Lord, let my prayer rise up to you. Ant. 2 You are my refuge, Lord; you are all that I desire in life. Psalm 142 You, Lord, are my refuge What is written in this psalm was fulfilled in our Lord’s passion (Saint Hilary). With all my voice I cry to the Lord, with all my voice I entreat the Lord. I pour out my trouble before him; I tell him all my distress while my spirit faints within me. But you, O Lord, know my path. Ant. You are my refuge, Lord; you are all that I desire in life. On the way where I shall walk they have hidden a snare to entrap me. Look on my right and see: there is not one who takes my part. I have no means of escape, not one who cares for my soul. Ant. You are my refuge, Lord; you are all that I desire in life. I cry to you, O Lord. I have said: “You are my refuge, all I have left in the land of the living.” Listen then to my cry for I am in the depths of distress. Ant. You are my refuge, Lord; you are all that I desire in life. Rescue me from those who pursue me for they are stronger than I. Bring my soul out of this prison and then I shall praise your name. Around me the just will assemble because of your goodness to me. Ant. You are my refuge, Lord; you are all that I desire in life. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Psalm-prayer Lord, we humbly ask for your goodness. May you help us to hope in you, and give us a share with your chosen ones in the land of the living. Ant. You are my refuge, Lord; you are all that I desire in life. Ant. 3 The Lord Jesus humbled himself, and God exalted him for ever. Canticle – Philippians 2:6-11 Christ, God’s holy servant Though he was in the form of God, Jesus did not deem equality with God something to be grasped at. Ant. The Lord Jesus humbled himself, and God exalted him for ever. Rather, he emptied himself and took the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men. Ant. The Lord Jesus humbled himself, and God exalted him for ever. He was known to be of human estate, and it was thus that he humbled himself, obediently accepting even death, death on a cross! Ant. The Lord Jesus humbled himself, and God exalted him for ever. Because of this, God highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name above every other name, So that at Jesus’ name every knee must bend in the heavens, on the earth, and under the earth, and every tongue proclaim to the glory of God the Father: JESUS CHRIST IS LORD! Ant. The Lord Jesus humbled himself, and God exalted him for ever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. The Lord Jesus humbled himself, and God exalted him for ever. READING Romans 11:25-36 Brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery lest you be conceited. Just as you were once disobedient to God and now have received mercy through their disobedience, so the Jews have become disobedient — since God wished to show you mercy — that they too may receive mercy. God had imprisoned all in disobedience that he might have mercy on all. How deep are the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How inscrutable his judgments, how unsearchable his ways! For “who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Who has given him anything so as to deserve return?” For from him and through him and for him all things are. To him be glory forever. Amen. Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church. RESPONSORY Our hearts are filled with wonder as we contemplate your works, O Lord. — Our hearts are filled with wonder as we contemplate your works, O Lord. We praise the wisdom which wrought them all, — as we contemplate your works, O Lord. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, — Our hearts are filled with wonder as we contemplate your works, O Lord. CANTICLE OF MARY Ant. You are Christ, the Son of the living God. Blessed are you, Simon, son of John. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: — as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. You are Christ, the Son of the living God. Blessed are you, Simon, son of John. INTERCESSIONS We give glory to the one God — Father, Son and Holy Spirit — and in our weakness we pray: Lord, be with your people. Holy Lord, Father all-powerful, let justice spring up on the earth, — then your people will dwell in the beauty of peace. Lord, be with your people. Let every nation come into your kingdom, — so that all peoples will be saved. Lord, be with your people. Let married couples live in your peace, — and grow in mutual love. Lord, be with your people. Reward all who have done good to us, Lord, — and grant them eternal life. Lord, be with your people. Look with compassion on victims of hatred and war, — grant them heavenly peace. Lord, be with your people. Concluding Prayer O God, who cause the minds of the faithful to unite in a single purpose, grant your people to love what you command and to desire what you promise, that, amid the uncertainties of this world, our hearts may be fixed on that place where true gladness is found. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. — Amen. DISMISSAL May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. — Amen.
