It was first launched on the 31st of March 2009, with the aim of informing, educating, and entertaining its community. The station broadcasts on multiple frequencies: 98.1 FM in Barry and the central Vale, 98.4 FM in the St Athan and Rhoose areas, 100.2 FM in Llantwit Major and western parts of the Vale, and 106.1 FM in Penarth and the surrounding area. It\'s also available online and on its mobile app, via RadioPlayer, and on smart speakers, allowing listeners to tune in live from virtually anywhere. Bro Radio focuses on a service tailored to the Vale of Glamorgan, promoting social identity and community pride. Its programming reflects the life of the residents it serves, with a mixture of locally relevant news, information, and music during the day, and specialist music and information programming during the evening and weekends. The station broadcasts a mix of today\'s new and chart music, alongside music from 1975 to the present during daytime programming (7am – 6pm). The station prides itself on being an alternative to commercial, national, and BBC Radio, aiming to offer an educational, entertaining, informative, and engaging service to its community. It creates a significant number of locally produced programmes, predominantly by volunteers from the local area, which helps to keep listeners updated with the local information that matters to them.
