Vectis Radio

Vectis Radio is a community radio station based in Newport on the Isle of Wight. It began as an online-only station on January 23, 2010, and started broadcasting on FM on November 4, 2017. The station now operates out of The Riverside Centre in Newport, where it has found stability after moving studios six times. The station was created by Ian Mac and launched from a small space at the Quay Arts Centre. Despite facing several relocations and challenges, the station has remained resilient, maintaining a strong commitment to its community and never wavering from its mission to broadcast. Notable achievements include becoming a Community Interest Company, receiving a Bronze award at the National Community Radio Awards for its community development project, and being recognized nationally through a documentary that aired on the BBC. In addition to broadcasting, Vectis Radio runs a free training school, known as \'The 4P’s Project,\' as part of the Isle of Wight Council’s ‘Youth Offer’. The program, which has trained over 100 students, aims to improve the confidence and communication skills of young people by teaching the four key areas of radio: presenting, production, promotion, and podcasting.
