Formation to Transformation is a daily worship devotional podcast for worship leaders and teams, hosted by Ryan Loche. Each episode offers a guided reflection on a single Bible verse, focusing on how Scripture forms us before it transforms us. The podcast includes verse-by-verse studies of books like Philippians and Psalms, as well as thematic seasons. New episodes are released every weekday, with a Sunday liturgy called Before the Doors Open.

Episodes

  • Hope in the Lord | Psalm 131:3 30.10.2026 3m
We've spent four days in the first two verses, and they were all about one man and his own soul. Then verse 3 turns around. Israel, hope in the Lord. The psalm stops being a private prayer and becomes a word to a people. On Sunday, someone in your room will be hoping in something that's been failing them. When you lead them to sing, you're doing verse 3. You're saying to the people of God, hope in the Lord. You don't have to feel stilled to say it, and you won't be saying it by yourself, because the room will be saying it with you.Formation to Transformation is a worship devotional with Ryan Loche, PhD.https://formationtotransformation.com
  • A Weaned Child | Psalm 131:2b 29.10.2026 3m
A weaned child is a child who's done nursing. That's what the word means, and that's as far as the psalm takes it. David doesn't tell us how old the child is, or how the weaning went, or whether there were hard nights. He gives us one picture, a weaned child with his mother, and then he says that's what his soul is like inside him. Some of you prayed for something this year that changed. The answer came differently than you asked, or it came as a no, or it hasn't come at all. The weaned child in the psalm is simply with his mother. You can be with the Lord like that, with the request settled or not, and you don't have to leave the room to be welcome in it.Formation to Transformation is a worship devotional with Ryan Loche, PhD.https://formationtotransformation.com
  • Stilled and Quieted | Psalm 131:2a 28.10.2026 4m
Verse 2 starts with one word, surely. David is reporting the state of his soul, and he's reporting it to the Lord. Verse 1 opened with the Lord's name, and David hasn't changed who he's talking to.Jesus invited people who were weary and carrying heavy loads to come to him, and he told them they'd find rest for their souls. He said he's gentle and humble in heart. The rest in that sentence is found with him, as something he gives.Formation to Transformation is a worship devotional with Ryan Loche, PhD.https://formationtotransformation.com
  • Things Too Wonderful | Psalm 131:1b 27.10.2026 3m
It would be easy to turn this verse into permission to stop thinking hard, or to hand back responsibilities that were given to us. That isn't what David is doing. He's speaking to the Lord, and this is humility before God, not a way out of work. The verse is about what he refused to pick up that was never his, and about his willingness to leave some things with the Lord.If you lead a team, you know what's yours. Choosing songs, preparing people, showing up ready, staying kind when the morning goes sideways. You can do all of that well and still not know what the Lord is going to do with it, and that's how it's meant to be. What the Lord does in the room on Sunday is too wonderful for you, and it was never on your list.Formation to Transformation is a worship devotional with Ryan Loche, PhD.https://formationtotransformation.com
  • My Heart and Eyes | Psalm 131:1a 26.10.2026 3m
This psalm is three verses long, and we're going to spend the whole week in it, one line at a time. Today I want to start where the psalm starts, with the first word. It's addressed to the Lord. Everything David says about his heart and his eyes, he says to the one who can already see both. That changes what kind of sentence it is. My heart isn't arrogant, nor my eyes lofty. If you said that to a friend over coffee, it would sound like bragging. Said to the Lord, it's an open account. He knows the heart before the sentence starts. So this is a man standing in front of God, describing his own interior out loud, and letting the Lord check it.Formation to Transformation is a worship devotional with Ryan Loche, PhD.https://formationtotransformation.com
  • 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 | Good Work and Word | Before the Doors Open 25.10.2026 2m
There are people coming through the doors who have had a hard time getting here. Some of you serving this morning have had a hard time getting here too. This Sunday sending receives Paul's prayer in 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17: comfort for our hearts and strength for every good work and word. The love and the grace come before the work.A blessing for those who sing and speak, those serving in the booth and at the doors, and those whose work the room will never see.Anchored in 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, read from the World English Bible. Before the Doors Open is a short Sunday morning sending for the whole worship team.
  • 2 Corinthians 12:10 | For Christ's Sake 23.10.2026 3m
Paul puts injuries and necessities beside weaknesses, and then adds persecutions and distresses. The words for Christ's sake identify the service Paul is describing. His account gives us room to examine costly responsibilities without treating every harmful situation or avoidable burden as something we must endure. This episode asks what faithfulness looks like in what we carry, leaving room for endurance, help, repentance, and the strength Christ supplies.Anchored in 2 Corinthians 12:10, read from the World English Bible. Part of What You Carry on Formation to Transformation.
  • 2 Corinthians 12:9b | That His Power May Rest on Me 22.10.2026 3m
Paul has spent part of this letter describing what people find unimpressive about him.Now he tells the Corinthians about a painful weakness and the grace Christ has given him. He will glory in his weaknesses so the power of Christ may rest on him. This episode considers truthful responsibility in the people we serve. We can prepare carefully, keep our promises, and admit where we need help without disclosing every private detail.Anchored in 2 Corinthians 12:9b, read from the World English Bible. Part of What You Carry on Formation to Transformation.
  • 2 Corinthians 12:9a | Sufficient for You 21.10.2026 3m
I would love for that sentence to come after Paul tells us the thorn is gone.Christ answers Paul's request with grace: My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Paul is still someone who needs help, and Christ addresses him there. This episode considers how we receive that promise and carry it carefully to someone else. Asking for help does not put us outside Christ's care.Anchored in 2 Corinthians 12:9a, read from the World English Bible. Part of What You Carry on Formation to Transformation.
  • 2 Corinthians 12:8 | Three Times 20.10.2026 3m
Sometimes the hardest part of asking again is remembering how sure you were the last time you asked.Paul begged the Lord three times that the thorn might depart from him. His account gives repeated prayer its place without making three requests a formula or a promise of removal. This episode makes room for the request we are tired of repeating, for practical help alongside prayer, and for receiving someone whose news has not improved.Anchored in 2 Corinthians 12:8, read from the World English Bible. Part of What You Carry on Formation to Transformation.
  • 2 Corinthians 12:7 | A Thorn in the Flesh 19.10.2026 3m
He could tell a story that makes him look extraordinary. He tells us there is something tormenting him.In 2 Corinthians 12:7, Paul describes a thorn in the flesh without telling us exactly what it was. This episode leaves the thorn unnamed and considers how we care for people whose suffering we cannot explain. We can sit beside a person without solving the reason they're hurting. We can ask for help and bring our questions to Christ.Anchored in 2 Corinthians 12:7, read from the World English Bible. Part of What You Carry on Formation to Transformation.
  • 1 Peter 4:10-11 | Managers of Grace | Before the Doors Open 18.10.2026 2m
Each of you has received a gift. Use it to serve one another as good managers of the grace of God. Peter writes that right after telling the churches to love one another earnestly and to be hospitable without grumbling. This short Sunday sending reads 1 Peter 4:10-11 and speaks a blessing over the platform and the booth together, whoever speaks and whoever serves, with the aim Peter names: that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. Anchored in 1 Peter 4:10-11.Before the Doors Open is a short Sunday morning sending for the whole worship team.
  • Numbers 11:26-29 | Whose Sake 16.10.2026 3m
Eldad and Medad were registered elders, but they never walked out to the Tent. The Spirit rested on them anyway, and they prophesied in the camp. A young man runs to tell Moses, and Joshua asks him to forbid them. This episode reads Moses's answer, are you jealous for my sake, and his wish that all the Lord's people were prophets. It keeps the facts straight about who these two men were, holds onto discernment and different gifts, and asks who in your house, workplace, or team you might be tempted to stop. Includes a short story about finding a place for new musicians early in ministry.Anchored in Numbers 11:26-29. Part of What You Carry, a Formation to Transformation series through Numbers 11.
  • Numbers 11:16-17; 24-25 | Seventy at the Tent 15.10.2026 4m
The Lord answers Moses. Gather seventy elders you already know, bring them to the Tent, and I will take of the Spirit on you and put it on them, so you do not bear this alone. This episode reads both halves of that answer, names the verses in between about meat and judgment, and looks at what the Lord actually does: recognized people standing with Moses, the Lord coming down himself, and his Spirit resting on more people. For anyone carrying a house, a job, or a ministry by themselves.Anchored in Numbers 11:16-17 and 24-25. Part of What You Carry, a Formation to Transformation series through Numbers 11.
  • Numbers 11:14-15 | Alone 14.10.2026 3m
Moses tells the Lord he cannot bear this people alone, and then he asks the Lord to kill him. This episode reads those two verses at the speed they deserve. The word alone has been part of Moses's story since Exodus 18. Here he says it to the Lord in his own voice, and the Lord's answer, which we read tomorrow, is help. Elijah, Jonah, and Job prayed sentences like this too. If those are your words today, tell someone who can be with you today.Anchored in Numbers 11:14-15. Part of What You Carry, a Formation to Transformation series through Numbers 11.
  • Numbers 11:12-13 | The Nurse 13.10.2026 4m
Moses gets sarcastic with the Lord. Did I conceive all this people? Did I carry them out of Egypt, that you tell me to hold them like a nurse holds a baby? Where could I get meat for all of them? This episode takes his question seriously. Moses never was the parent of this camp, and the nurse turns out to be an honorable job with limits. For parents, for the person at work everyone comes to, and for worship teams carrying a hungry room.Anchored in Numbers 11:12-13. Part of What You Carry, a Formation to Transformation series through Numbers 11.
  • Numbers 11:10-11 | Every Door 12.10.2026 4m
Numbers 11 opens with fire at Taberah and a camp craving the food of Egypt while forgetting the slavery. By verse 10 every family is weeping at its own tent door, and Moses can hear all of it.This episode looks at how Moses responds. The people complained in the Lord's ears too, and fire came. Moses speaks as the Lord's servant, asking for favor, and the chapter goes on to show the Lord answering him. A word for anyone hearing weeping at every door in their house, their workplace, or their church.Anchored in Numbers 11:10-11. Part of What You Carry, a Formation to Transformation series through Numbers 11.
  • My Presence Will Go With You | Before the Doors Open 11.10.2026 3m
There is a walk you do every week that nobody sees. From the car to the door, keys in one hand, something to carry in the other, and whatever you woke up with riding along in your chest. Moses had a walk like that ahead of him, and there was one thing he refused to make it without.God had offered the land with an angel ahead of them and without his own presence, and Moses asked first to be shown God's way. The answer is the verse. My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Then Moses says it back to him and holds God to it. He would rather stay in the desert with God than go up to the land without him. The word under presence is the ordinary word for a face, and the rest he promised is one you carry while you walk. You can have a morning go fine and never once notice you needed him. Before you walk in, ask for the thing Moses asked for.Anchored in Exodus 33:14. Before the Doors Open is a short Sunday morning sending for the whole worship team.
  • Habakkuk 3:19 | For the Music Director 09.10.2026 4m
Habakkuk ends his book with a line that sounds like David's. He makes my feet like deer's feet, the picture near the end of the song David sang when the Lord had delivered him from all his enemies and from Saul. A prophet with a question nobody resolved closes with a king's victory image.Three verses ago rottenness was in his bones. Now his strength has a name, and the name is not his. The verse does not say the trembling stopped. It says where the strength is. Then the deer, sure-footed on ground that did not get flatter. And then the last line, a heading at the bottom of the book instead of the top. For the music director, on my stringed instruments. He got answered twice and neither answer was the one he wanted. What he never gets is the reversal. Babylon still comes, and he hands over a song with parts in it anyway, to the person who runs the music.Anchored in Habakkuk 3:19. Part of The Waiting Season, a verse-by-verse walk through Habakkuk for worship leaders and the whole team.
  • Habakkuk 3:17-18 | Though the Fig Tree Doesn't Flourish 08.10.2026 4m
At the start of this season I told you I was not going to read you the end of this book, and that nobody puts the six lines before it on anything. This is the morning I read you the six lines.Fig tree. Vines. Olive. Fields. Flocks. Herd. That is an inventory, the breadth of what a family in Judah lived on, and taking all six away describes a household with nothing in it. Most of us have skipped that list for years and gone straight to the yet, and the yet does not mean anything until you have heard what it is standing against. Then look at where the joy is located. In the Lord. In the God of my salvation. There is no restoration in the verse. He does not say the fields will yield again. He says the list out loud, all of it, and then he rejoices, and the rejoicing is only honest because the inventory came first.Anchored in Habakkuk 3:17-18. Part of The Waiting Season, a verse-by-verse walk through Habakkuk for worship leaders and the whole team.
