  • What Is Enough? Rethinking Success, Leading Change, and Taking Action 27.10.2026 11m
What is enough - and how do you know when you’ve reached it? In this Spark episode of the Lifting Leaders Podcast, cohost Kristal Roberts explores how defining “enough” can help us rethink success, clarify what really matters, and take meaningful action toward change. In a world that constantly encourages us to pursue more, more success, more money, bigger goals, bigger accomplishments, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause and ask: What am I really trying to create, and what would be enough? Kristal shares the personal story of fulfilling a longtime dream of buying a small family cabin on a lake. What began as a vision of a larger getaway evolved as she and her husband became clearer about what they truly valued: time with family, connection, nature, accessibility, and a place they could enjoy often. The result wasn't the biggest or most elaborate version of the dream. It was something that fit their lives, their values, and their budget and ultimately offered more of what they were really seeking. That realization offers a powerful lesson for leadership and organizational change. Leaders often begin with big visions: transforming a culture, developing a high-performing team, launching a major initiative, changing careers, or creating something entirely new. Big visions can inspire us, but they can also become so complicated, expensive, or resource-intensive that we struggle to take action. What if the question isn't always, “How do we do more?” but instead, “What is enough to make a meaningful difference?” Listen in for a reflection on the difference between settling for less and recognizing enough, why smaller changes can sometimes create greater impact, and how getting clear about your values can help you move from possibility to action. Because leading change doesn't always require doing more. Sometimes it requires getting clearer about what matters most and taking the next meaningful step.

  • Leadership, Career Change & Resilience: Navigating the Waves of Work and Life with Jack Schlosser 06.10.2026 50m
How do you know when to stay the course, make a career change, or take a new direction when the future is uncertain? In this episode of the Lifting Leaders Podcast, Kristal Roberts and Tricia Rhine welcome back Jack Schlosser - executive coach, leadership advisor, speaker, author, and lifelong surfer - for a conversation about leadership, career transitions, resilience, decision-making, and navigating change and uncertainty. Drawing on more than three decades of advising CEOs, boards, and senior executives, and a lifetime spent surfing, Jack uses the ocean as a powerful metaphor for navigating work and life. Surfers can’t control the waves, but they can learn to read the conditions, make decisions, adapt, recover after a wipeout, and recognize when it’s time to paddle toward a different wave. As we continue our Lead the Change journey, Jack explores how leaders can move from waiting for the “right” conditions to recognizing where they have agency and taking action. Listen in for practical insights on: Navigating career transitions and unexpected change Knowing when to stay the course or change direction Leading through circumstances and systems you can’t control Moving forward when you feel stuck or uncertain Building resilience, adaptability, courage, and sound judgment Recovering and learning from setbacks Making decisions when there is no obvious “right” answer Sustaining curiosity, purpose, and possibility throughout your career and life Jack also shares what surfing can teach us about timing, balance, adaptability, resilience, and courage and why navigating change isn’t about controlling everything around us. It’s about paying attention to the conditions, understanding what we can influence, and deciding how we want to respond. Whether you’re considering a career change, leading through organizational change, facing a leadership challenge, recovering from a setback, or wondering whether it’s time for something new, this conversation offers a powerful reminder: We don’t have to control the ocean to move forward. Sometimes leading the change begins with recognizing the wave in front of us—and choosing to paddle. • How to Get Unstuck in the Messy Middle: 6 Practical Ways to Lead Change 28.09.2026 24m
Change rarely happens in a straight line. Whether you’re leading organizational change, navigating a personal transition, or simply trying to figure out what comes next, there’s often a point where forward movement feels difficult. You know something needs to change but you’re not quite sure what to do next. Welcome to the messy middle of change. As we continue our Lead the Change journey on the Lifting Leaders Podcast, we’re taking a cue from fall. The leaves change, the weather shifts, daylight gets shorter, and we adjust, pulling out warmer clothes and preparing for what’s ahead. Change can be like that, too. Sometimes it’s expected. Sometimes it catches us by surprise. And sometimes we simply feel stuck. Inspired by our recent conversation with millennial leader, coach, and author Melissa Castro, this Gems episode explores six practical ways to get unstuck and create forward movement when change feels uncertain. We explore questions that can help shift your perspective, why taking a small action, even when you’re not sure it’s the “right” one, can create momentum, and the surprising value of stepping away, seeking another perspective, and opening yourself to new experiences. If you’re leading through change, navigating uncertainty, or feeling stuck in the messy middle, this episode offers practical leadership strategies to help you move from uncertainty toward action and discover your next step.
  • From Hope to Action: Leading Change When the Path Isn’t Clear with Melissa Castro 22.09.2026 57m
What does it take to move from hoping for change to actually making it happen, especially when you can’t be certain how things will turn out? In this episode of the Lifting Leaders Podcast, Kristal Roberts sits down with Melissa Castro, author of Intrinsic Leadership, to explore what it means to turn hope into agency and take meaningful action in the face of uncertainty. Drawing from two significant changes in her own life, writing and publishing Intrinsic Leadership and moving to Costa Rica with her partner, Melissa shares what she has learned about planning, persistence, vulnerability, and having the courage to move forward before you have all the answers. Along the way, Melissa offers a powerful ziplining metaphor for change: sometimes our instinct is to grip tighter when we’re afraid, but holding on too tightly can actually stop our momentum. Leading change requires us to prepare thoughtfully, take the leap, and trust our ability to adapt along the way. Kristal and Melissa also explore the often-overlooked “messy middle” of change, the place where initial excitement has faded, the destination is still out of sight, and sustaining momentum becomes the real work. Melissa shares why trusted relationships, connection to purpose, patience, and noticing incremental progress are essential for staying the course. And when change feels especially difficult, she encourages leaders to look for “glimmers of the good,” small signs of possibility, progress, and hope that remind us that our efforts are making a difference. If you’re leading organizational change, navigating a personal transition, or simply trying to turn an idea for a better future into meaningful action, this conversation is a reminder that you don’t need certainty to move forward. You need a sense of purpose, a willingness to begin, and the persistence to keep going.

  • Resilience, Recovery, and Hope-Led Leadership: How to Adapt Forward Through Life’s Challenges 15.06.2026 40m
What does true resilience look like when life, leadership, and uncertainty don’t go as planned? In this Gems episode of the Lifting Leaders Podcast, we revisit powerful conversations from our Ignite Genuine Hope series and explore a theme that keeps emerging: resilience. You’ll hear insights from guests who model what it means to adapt, recover, learn, and move forward with purpose. Melanie Vargas shares how more than 30 years of sobriety became a mission of service through her podcast, creating psychologically safe spaces for honest recovery stories. P.L. and Kristen, founders of Cycle 5 To Survive, remind us that resilience is not always about pushing through. After facing equipment failures, floods, illness, and unexpected setbacks in South America, they chose to return home, heal, regroup, and adapt their path forward. We also reflect on the stories of Sasha Farley and Leah Fleischner, whose decisions to build lives and careers outside the United States reveal the courage, flexibility, and resilience required to navigate uncertainty, embrace new cultures, and stay grounded in purpose. Together, these conversations point to an important leadership distinction: endurance treats people like machines; resilience treats people like humans. Endurance asks us to keep going no matter the cost. Resilience invites us to pause, learn, recover, adapt, and move forward with greater wisdom. This episode explores how hope-led leadership, emotional resilience, psychological safety, recovery, and adaptability help us create a better future, not through heroic effort alone, but through our collective capacity to heal, grow, and keep moving forward. Key Takeaways: Resilience is about adapting, learning, recovering, and moving forward. Recovery and growth are strengthened by psychological safety and honest conversations. Setbacks can become opportunities to heal, regroup, and adjust course. Living and leading through uncertainty requires courage, flexibility, and purpose. Genuine hope is sustained when we believe people can adapt and create a better future together. Listener Reflection:When challenges arise, do you push through or adapt forward?

  • Encore Edition: With Homage to Mothers - Let's Talk About Caregiving, From Different Angles! 12.05.2026 44m
Sharing this Encore edition from 2025. As we recorded this episode, on the front end of Mother’s Day weekend, we started simmering on the topic of caregiving…something moms know all too well about.  So, with a world of respect, to all the moms out there, we are taking a look at caregiving, from a few different angles. The first angle is, of course, all about people who provide care for others.  This includes all women AND men, who may be providing ongoing care for one or more parent or other family member(s).  It includes the “Sandwich Generation,” who may have kids at home and, just maybe, have older family members living in their homes.  Being a primary caregiver is a truly challenging job, and it can be difficult to realize the rewards, while you’re entrenched in the role. Listen in, as we share a few of our personal journeys, as caregivers and what we gained from our experiences. If you’ve ever needed care from others, but found it difficult to ask or accept, you’ll learn more about why it’s okay and courageous to be vulnerable and accept care.  Finally, we approach caregiving from the angle of caring for ourselves. This may be the most challenging aspect of caregiving and it’s critically important.  So, join us as we hold caregiving “Story Time,” with you.  We hope it inspires you to explore your own environment and feelings.
