You've Apologized to Your Adult Child. Why Is It Never Enough? 27.10.2026 7mYou've apologized to your estranged adult child, maybe more than once. You've listened, taken responsibility, given them space, and tried to make things right. And nothing has changed. So what do you do when your apology is never enough? Ready to stop feeling stuck? Apply for the Breakthrough Accelerator (next group starts November 2): https://www.sally-harris.com/BreakthroughAccelerator?utm_source=podcast&utm_medium=libsyn&utm_campaign=accelerator&utm_content=apology-not-enough 📺 Watch this episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/dswRt0XA87c In this episode, I'm talking to moms who feel stuck between two painful extremes: apologizing over and over in hopes of reconciliation, or getting so hurt that they've closed the door completely. Neither one leads to healing. We'll talk about: • Why apologizing again and again can become unhealthy • The difference between guarding your heart and hardening it • How to own what's truly yours without carrying guilt that doesn't belong to you • What it means to have a soft heart and a steady spine: staying open to reconciliation without giving up your peace or self-respect Here's what I want every mom to remember: an apology is not a payment. It doesn't buy reconciliation. You can sincerely own your mistakes, ask for forgiveness, and still not get the response you're hoping for. Forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing. Reconciliation takes two people, and you are only one half of this relationship. You don't have to keep groveling, and you don't have to become bitter. There is another way forward. Healing is possible. People can change. God is still at work, even when you can't see it. ❤️ READY TO STOP FEELING STUCK? If you're tired of walking through estrangement alone, I'd love for you to apply for the Breakthrough Accelerator. It's a six-week, small-group coaching experience where moms work toward peace, healthier boundaries, and personal growth, with faith, encouragement, and accountability along the way. You've Prayed for Your Estranged Child. So Why Can't You Let Go? 24.10.2026 8mHave you prayed over your estranged adult child, surrendered them to God, and then found yourself taking it right back? You're not alone. For a mom whose child has walked away, surrender can be one of the hardest things she'll ever do. In this episode of The Sally Harris Show, I answer a question I hear all the time: "How do I actually surrender?" We talk about why letting go feels so hard, the signs you're still trying to control the outcome, and what it really means to trust God with your adult child. Maybe you're checking your phone, rereading old texts, or rehearsing conversations at 2 a.m., trying to figure out what to say or do to make things right. Your peace rises and falls with whether they call. Here's what I want you to know: surrender doesn't mean giving up on your child. It means releasing the outcome to God, so He can lead your steps while you focus on your own healing. I also introduce the approach I use with moms in my coaching: Surrender, Stand, and Stay. You can love your adult child, keep praying for them, and still move forward. 💗 Ready for support? Maybe you've spent months or even years checking your phone, replaying conversations, and hoping that one day your adult child will come back, apologize, or make different choices. But what happens when waiting for your adult child to change means putting your own life on hold? I spent 10 years navigating estrangement with my own daughter, including holidays with someone missing from our family table. I know how painful that waiting can be. But I also learned something that changed my life: My peace couldn't depend on my daughter changing. In this episode, I'm sharing why waiting isn't the same as hoping, what it really means to surrender your adult child to God, and how to stop carrying the guilt, shame, and responsibility for choices you cannot control. We'll talk about: * Why waiting for your estranged adult child can keep you emotionally stuck * The difference between holding on to hope and putting your life on hold * How surrendering your adult child to God changes your perspective * Letting go of guilt and responsibility that were never yours to carry * Finding peace and purpose even when your adult child hasn't changed * Preparing your heart for Thanksgiving and Christmas when your family is estranged Mom, you don't have to stop loving your child to start living your life again. Your Husband Can't Fix the Pain of Estrangement (And That's Okay) 17.10.2026 8mYour husband can't fix this pain, and you don't have to carry it alone. When your adult child is estranged, the pain can feel unbearable. But what happens when your husband doesn't seem to understand what you're going through? While you're grieving the silence, worrying about your child, and struggling to get through each day, he seems to be carrying on with life as usual. Does he even care? In this episode of The Sally Harris Show, we're talking about why husbands and wives may grieve adult child estrangement differently, why you might feel alone in your marriage, and what to do when your spouse doesn't understand your need for emotional support. If you've ever wondered why your husband seems fine while you're falling apart, you're not alone. I'm sharing my own experience navigating estrangement in my marriage, the expectations I had to release, and why learning to seek support beyond my closest family and friends became such an important part of my healing journey. In this episode, you'll learn: - Why your husband may respond differently to adult child estrangement - Why grieving differently doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't care - How unrealistic expectations can create additional strain in your marriage - Why seeking coaching or outside support isn't a sign of weakness - How to begin finding peace and moving forward, even when your spouse doesn't fully understand You don't have to wait for your husband to understand your pain or for your adult child to reconnect before you begin healing. Your emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being matter, too. 💙 READY TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP? Maybe you've replayed every conversation, every holiday, every text, wondering what you missed. You would have listened. You would have tried to make things right. In this episode, I talk about why adult children sometimes choose silence instead of communication, the signs we may have missed, and what you can do when reconciliation feels impossible. You can begin healing, strengthening your boundaries, and finding peace right now, and that work can prepare you for real connection in the future. When Your Adult Child Suddenly Can't Stand You 06.10.2026 9mIf you're feeling ready for support and want to learn more about working together, start with a short application for a Heart-to-Heart Consultation: https://www.sally-harris.com/H2Happ?utm_source=podcast&utm_medium=libsyn&utm_campaign=consult&utm_content=criticizes-everything Does it feel like your adult child criticizes everything you do? Your tone. Your advice. The way you parented. Sometimes it can feel like even the way you exist is somehow wrong. But not every harsh word your adult child says is the truth about you. In this episode, I talk about what may be underneath all that criticism, and why sometimes we're so focused on the words that we miss the music underneath them. We'll look at the difference between healthy accountability and taking responsibility for someone else's emotions, why adult children may project their struggles onto Mom, and how to respond calmly without over-explaining, chasing their approval, or allowing disrespect. You do not need to audition for your adult child's respect. You can love your son or daughter without absorbing their emotional chaos, and you can protect your peace without giving up hope for your relationship. Are You Pushing Them Away? The Truth About Chasing Your Adult Child 03.10.2026 6mAre you exhausted from chasing your estranged adult child—sending the texts, trying to keep the peace, over-apologizing, or constantly wondering what you can do to fix the relationship? Sometimes the harder we chase, the more stuck we become. In this episode, I'm talking about what can happen when you stop chasing your adult child and start choosing YOU. We'll talk about breaking the cycle of rejection, letting go of the need to fix what isn't yours to heal, and why surrender doesn't mean giving up. You can love your son or daughter without begging for crumbs. You can step back without abandoning them. And you can continue to pray, hope, and trust God while also taking care of your own heart. If you've been measuring your worth by your adult child's silence, rejection, or absence, I hope this episode reminds you: their healing is not your assignment. Start here: https://www.sally-harris.com/H2Happ When your adult child disrespects you, do you find yourself defending yourself, explaining your intentions, or getting pulled into another argument? Sometimes the most powerful response is silence. In today's video, Sally Harris shares four practical ways to handle disrespect from your adult son or daughter without sacrificing your self-respect or losing your peace. You don't have to match their energy, tolerate hurtful behavior, or participate in every argument. Learning when to speak, when to walk away, and when to remain silent can change the way you navigate these difficult interactions. In this video, we'll discuss: Why respect starts with YOU. How to disengage from disrespectful and harmful conversations. Why silence can be a powerful boundary. How to communicate calmly instead of reacting emotionally. How to release what you cannot control while protecting your own peace. Remember, silence isn't about punishment or ignoring the problem. It's about refusing to participate in a harmful exchange while modeling the respect you want in your relationships. Do You Ever Get to Tell Your Estranged Child How Much They Hurt You? 26.09.2026 9mDo you ever get to tell your estranged adult child how much they hurt you? When your adult child finally opens the door to reconnection, you may feel enormous pressure to listen, stay calm, and make the most of the opportunity. But underneath all of that may be another question: What about me? Your grief matters. Your feelings matter. And wanting your adult child to care about your inner world does not make you selfish or needy. In this episode of The Sally Harris Show, I'm talking about what happens when reconciliation begins, but the relationship still feels one-sided. We'll talk about why I believe moms often need to go first by listening and creating a safe space, why that doesn't mean ignoring your own pain, and when there may be room to begin sharing your side too. In this episode, we'll talk about: • Why listening first doesn't mean their pain matters more than yours • How to become a safer place for difficult conversations • What to do when you're reconnecting but still walking on eggshells • Why you deserve to be heard too • How to manage expectations as a relationship slowly begins to heal • Why you shouldn't compare your family's timeline to anyone else's Reconciliation is rarely an overnight fix. Every family is different, and rebuilding trust and communication takes time. Your voice doesn't disappear simply because you're choosing to listen first. If you're a mom struggling with estrangement from your adult child and you're ready for support, you can apply for a Heart-to-Heart Consultation with me below. Why You Need to Let Go of the Guilt When Your Adult Child Cuts You Off 22.09.2026 9mIs my adult child's estrangement my fault? If you've ever laid awake replaying your parenting mistakes, wondering what you should have done differently or asking yourself whether YOU are the reason your adult child walked away, this episode is for you. Mom guilt can become incredibly heavy during estrangement. Maybe there are things you wish you could go back and change. Maybe there's an apology you need to make, a pattern you need to work on, or a moment you wish you had handled differently. But taking responsibility for your part is not the same as taking responsibility for the entire story. In this episode, we're talking about the difference between healthy self-reflection and unhealthy self-blame, why estrangement is rarely a story with one villain and one innocent person, and how to do the work God is asking of you without allowing guilt and shame to become your identity. Because "I made mistakes" and "I am the mistake" are two very different things. You can own what is yours. You can grow. You can change. And you can still allow yourself to experience peace and grace while God continues working on your family. ❤️ READY FOR YOUR NEXT STEP? Her Daughter Won't Talk to Her: Finding Strength in the Silence 19.09.2026 21mWhat does a mom do when years go by and she still hasn't heard her daughter's voice? In this episode of The Sally Harris Show, I sit down with a mom who has been estranged from her daughter for more than six years. She shares the heartbreak of missed birthdays, holidays, graduations, unanswered attempts to reconnect, and eventually learning that her daughter had changed her phone number. But this isn't only a story about estrangement. It's a story about what happens to a mom in the waiting. We talk about the things she wishes she had done differently, the attempts she made to repair the relationship, and the difficult realization that she cannot make her daughter be ready for a conversation. Most importantly, we talk about surrendering an adult child to God, continuing to pray when you cannot be part of your child's life, and allowing God to keep working in YOU while you wait. The silence from your adult child may be painful—but God is not silent. If you're a mom dealing with an estranged daughter or son, no contact with an adult child, rejection, unanswered messages, or the grief of missing important moments in your child's life, I pray this conversation gives you hope and reminds you that God is still at work. ❤️ Ready for support in your own estrangement journey? What to Do When You Don't Know What to Say to Your Estranged Child 15.09.2026 7mAre you constantly wondering what to say to your estranged adult child? Maybe you've rewritten the same text five times, drafted an apology you're afraid to send, or keep searching for the perfect words that might finally fix the relationship. But what if the next right step isn't another text, letter, apology, or explanation? In this video, I'm sharing what to do instead. So many moms of estranged adult children get stuck trying to find the one thing they can say or do that will finally change everything. But there is no perfect sentence—and chasing the right words can keep you focused on an outcome you cannot control. Instead, we're talking about: Why the first right step may be inward, not outward The healing work that IS within your control Why boundaries can be gates instead of walls How to stop chasing and trying to force an outcome What it means to prepare faithfully for the relationship you hope to have Your job isn't to force reconciliation. It's to prepare faithfully—to become a healthier, more grounded version of yourself so that when the door does open, you're ready to walk through it. ❤️ READY FOR PERSONAL SUPPORT? How to Become the Person Your Adult Child Wants to Reconnect With 12.09.2026 9mIf your adult child came back into your life today, who would they find? When you're estranged from your adult son or daughter, it's easy to spend so much time wondering when they'll come back, whether they'll understand your heart, or if they'll ever notice how much you've changed. But there's another question that may be even more important: Who are you becoming while you wait? In this episode of The Sally Harris Show, I'm talking about the work we can do as moms during estrangement—not to manipulate our adult children into reconnecting, but to become healthier, stronger versions of ourselves. We'll talk about why rebuilding a relationship takes time, what happens when both you and your adult child have changed during the separation, and why reconciliation may feel unfamiliar at first. I also share part of my own reconciliation story and the moment I realized my daughter could hear the change in me before we were even seeing each other again. I was communicating differently. I wasn't giving all of my opinions or making the conversation about me. I was becoming curious about who she was and what her life looked like. And that's what I want you to remember: the work you're doing now matters. Your healing, growth, faith, and the woman you're becoming are not wasted—even if your adult child isn't acknowledging those changes yet. 💗 READY FOR PERSONAL SUPPORT? If Your Adult Child Won't Speak to You, You're Not Alone 08.09.2026 7mIf your adult child has stopped speaking to you, pulled away, or cut off contact, you may be wondering: Am I the only mom going through this? You're surrounded by families who seem fine. You sit in church, attend holidays, go to work, and answer questions about your children while carrying a heartbreak that very few people can see. In this video, I'm talking about the hidden grief of estrangement from an adult child — including something called ambiguous grief. It's the pain of grieving someone who is still alive, but whose relationship with you has changed or disappeared. We'll also talk about why estrangement can feel so incredibly isolating, why well-meaning friends and family often don't understand, and how shame can convince mothers to carry this pain silently. If your son or daughter won't speak to you, please know there are other moms walking through this too. You do not have to carry the pain, confusion, and loneliness of family estrangement by yourself. Your Estranged Child Wants Space—Here's What YOU Need to Do 05.09.2026 11mYour estranged adult child has asked for space. You don't want to chase them, beg for a relationship, or keep reaching out when they've made it clear they want distance. But what are you supposed to do in the meantime? In this Q&A episode of The Sally Harris Show, I'm answering a mom who has experienced 18 years of hurt in her relationship with her adult daughter. After another painful conflict, her daughter decided to disengage from the relationship—and Mom is left wondering: Is there anything else I should do? We'll talk about when it may be time to give your adult child space, whether and when to gently reach out again, and why this season cannot only be about waiting for your son or daughter to change. Because Mom, this time matters. Estrangement can become a season where you sit and replay every conversation, wonder what you did wrong, and wait for your adult child to come back. Or it can also become a season where you seek support, look honestly at your own growth, strengthen your relationship with God, and become healthier while trusting Him with what you cannot control. In this episode, we talk about: • What to do when your estranged adult child asks for space • Why repeatedly reaching out may not be the answer • Walking on eggshells and staying silent to avoid conflict • Taking accountability without accepting all the blame • When a gentle, no-pressure reach-out may be appropriate • Using the separation to work on your own healing and growth • Finding support and community during estrangement • Praying for your adult child while trusting God with the outcome You cannot control when your adult child is ready to talk, what they believe about the relationship, or what they choose to do next. But you can decide what you will do with this time. Don't waste it. If you're a mom navigating estrangement, limited contact, difficult boundaries, or a painful relationship with your adult child, you don't have to walk through this season alone. The Pain of Estrangement Won't Always Feel Like This 01.09.2026 8mWill the pain of estrangement ever go away? If your adult child has stopped talking to you, cut off contact, or created distance in your relationship, you may wonder if you'll ever feel like yourself again. In this episode, I'm talking about what healing from an estranged adult child actually looks like — and why healing doesn't mean you stop loving your child, missing them, praying for them, or hoping for reconciliation. After walking through a 10-year estrangement with my own daughter and now helping thousands of moms navigate difficult and estranged relationships with their adult children, I know how consuming this pain can feel. But the way you feel today is not necessarily the way you will always feel. We'll talk about why waiting for reconciliation before allowing yourself to heal can keep you stuck, how the pain of estrangement changes over time, and what happened when my prayer shifted from "God, please make this pain go away" to asking God who He wanted me to become while I walked through it. Healing is possible — even while you're still waiting. 💗 TAKE THE FREE EMPOWER MOM QUIZ If you're a mom struggling with an estranged or difficult relationship with your adult child, the Empower Mom Quiz can help you identify where you are in your healing journey and what your next step may be. 👉 Empower Mom Quiz: www.sally-harris.com/EmpowerMom If you're feeling ready for support and want to learn more about working together, I invite you to start with a short application. When Your Estranged Child Starts Coming Back, Don't Do This 29.08.2026 7mYour estranged adult child is talking to you again—but the walls are still up. What do you do now? In this episode of The Sally Harris Show, I'm answering a mom whose daughter has started attending family gatherings again after a year of no contact. Her daughter is cordial, but distant. She gives short answers, talks mostly with her sibling, and doesn't seem ready to let Mom back in. So how do you move forward when your adult child has reopened the door—but only a little? One of the biggest mistakes we can make during early reconnection is trying to rush the relationship back to where it used to be. When you've spent months or years hoping your estranged son or daughter would come back, it's natural to look for signs of progress. But your adult child may be looking for signs of progress in you, too. In this episode, we'll talk about: • Why small steps after family estrangement still matter • How to respond when your adult child is cordial but emotionally distant • Why you shouldn't make every interaction a test of the relationship • How to stay warm without chasing connection • What to do when your child talks freely with other family members but barely speaks to you • Why rebuilding trust after estrangement can take time • How to give God room to work when you can't see what's happening If your estranged adult child has recently reached out, started texting again, returned to family gatherings, or begun allowing limited contact, don't rush it. Reconciliation rarely happens all at once. Sometimes the next faithful step is simply creating a different experience with you—one without pressure, desperation, punishment, or expectations. A year ago, she wasn't coming. Today, she's in the room. Don't overlook what God may be doing because it doesn't look like the relationship you've been praying for yet. Are You Ready for the Day Your Estranged Child Comes Back? 25.08.2026 8mWhat if your estranged son or daughter came back tomorrow? Would you be ready? When you're estranged from an adult child, it's easy to spend months or even years focused on one thing: reconciliation. You wait for the phone call. You hope for the text. You pray for the relationship to be restored. But there's another question I believe every estranged mom needs to ask: Who do I want to become before they come back? During my own estrangement from my daughter, there came a point when I looked in the mirror and barely recognized the woman looking back at me. I had gained 70 pounds. I was leaning on alcohol to cope. I was depressed, disconnected, and had tied so much of my peace to whether or not my daughter wanted a relationship with me. Something had to change — even if my relationship with her didn't. In this episode, I'm sharing the shift that helped me stop trying to control reconciliation and start focusing on my own healing, my relationship with God, and the woman I was becoming in the waiting. We'll talk about: • Why waiting for your estranged child can slowly become your identity • The difference between giving up on reconciliation and choosing to live again • Why you cannot control when or whether your adult child reaches out • How to prepare emotionally for possible reconciliation • Healing from guilt, regret, rejection, and the pain of family estrangement • What it means to ask God to work in you — not only in your adult child • The question I ask the moms I coach: Who do you want to become before they come back? You do not have to wait for the relationship to change before you begin changing your life. If you're a mom struggling with an estranged daughter, estranged son, adult child who won't speak to you, no contact, limited contact, rejection, or a difficult relationship with your adult child, I hope this episode reminds you that there is meaningful work you can do in this season. ❤️ READY FOR YOUR NEXT STEP? She Made Mistakes. Her Son Still Won't Talk to Her. 22.08.2026 15mIf your adult child won't talk to you and you're carrying guilt over the mistakes you made as a mom, this conversation is for you. Adult child estrangement can leave a mother replaying the past over and over: What did I do wrong? Was this my fault? Should I have handled things differently? How do I apologize? And how do I forgive myself when my adult child still doesn't want a relationship with me? In this episode of The Sally Harris Show, I sit down with a mom whose adult son barely speaks to her. She shares openly about the mistakes she made, the regret she still carries, and her desire to make amends with her estranged son—even though reconciliation has not happened yet. We talk about the difficult difference between taking responsibility for your mistakes and living in guilt and shame because of them. This mom recognizes choices she wishes she had made differently. She has apologized. She wants to rebuild trust. But she is also learning that she cannot force her adult son to reconcile before he is ready. If you are a mom struggling with an estranged adult son or daughter, you may recognize yourself in her story. Maybe your adult child stopped calling or texting. Maybe they rarely respond when you reach out. Maybe you have limited contact and you're afraid of losing even that. Or maybe you know you made mistakes in the relationship and you can't stop wondering whether those mistakes caused the estrangement. One of the most powerful things this mom shares is: "I can say I'm sorry all day long, but I need to make amends." There is an important difference between acknowledging what you did wrong and believing you must punish yourself forever because of it. You can take responsibility. You can make changes. You can become a healthier mom. And you can continue healing even while you wait to see what happens in the relationship. If you're searching for help because your adult child won't talk to you, you're dealing with estrangement from your adult son or daughter, or you can't seem to forgive yourself for your parenting mistakes, I hope this mom's vulnerable story helps you feel less alone and gives you something to think about in your own healing. If you are a mom navigating adult child estrangement, no contact, limited contact, rejection, boundaries, or a difficult relationship with your adult child, you don't have to figure out your next steps alone.
