University Radio York

University Radio York (URY) is the oldest independent radio station in the UK, established in 1968 as the first legally independent station outside of the BBC. It operates as a student-run radio station for the University of York, broadcasting 24 hours a day during term time. The station offers a mix of genres and shows catered to different demographics, and its primary objective is to inform and entertain the students of the University of York​​. Transmissions are broadcast on 1350 kHz AM and 88.3 MHz FM across both the University of York\'s Heslington West and Heslington East campuses. However, the AM transmissions were reported to have ceased on June 25, 2023​​.  The station\'s programming includes entertainment, news, speech, drama, and music, and changes significantly each academic year with the intake of new students. Notable features of its schedule include URY Newshour, a long-running news program. The station\'s activities extend beyond the broadcast studio, with involvement in major university and student union events, live music coverage, recruitment, and news reporting​​.
