"If I have 50 clients, I have 50 incomes": How to think like an entrepreneur, with Karl Deeter 04.11.2026 36mAs a young man, Karl Deeter tried it all – digging ditches, dog training, door-to-door insurance, bar work, paid music gigs, you name it. A little over a year ago, Mr Deeter sold his business, Software Circle, for €9m. He is still working over 60 hours a week. It's fair to say he knows a thing or two about graft and entrepreneurial spirit, and so he's the latest guest in the Money Talks studio alongside host Katie Byrne. "The funny thing is, if you love something enough and you work hard enough at it, the money finds you," Mr Deeter says. "And I know that probably sounds like, 'Oh, that's so cliched' – it's not. It is actually how the world works. "If you love something enough that you go for it in a way that no one else does and you're there earlier and you're there later and you're doing it with an intensity and you think about it and you read about it and you study it... the money will find you." On this episode of Money Talks, Mr Deeter pulls back the curtain on the entrepreneur game as he details his experience, his advice and why he believes that he could make anyone a millionaire. Money Makeover: ‘I make €82,000 a year. It’s not enough.’ 28.10.2026 31mEvery month on Money Talks, we step away from in-depth how-tos and entrepreneurial journeys to delve into the personal side of finance with host Katie Byrne, financial expert Cian Carolan and you, the audience. Each person we speak to for the purposes of a case study is offered an unfiltered and nonjudgmental money makeover. In this episode, Katie and Cian assess the balance sheet of a 36-year-old woman who is making €82,000 a year yet feels she isn’t earning enough for her age. Although she started her pension at the age of 23, she believes she "doesn't have a good relationship with money". Her short-term goal is to buy a house in Dublin – the location is non-negotiable – while her medium- and long-term goals are emergency fund-focused. What advice do Katie and Cian have this time around? Money Talks is part of the Trust Project. How much money can you legally make without paying income tax? – more than you might think 21.10.2026 26mFrom next year, it will be possible for a couple to take home almost €80,000 a year without paying any income tax. Sounds great on paper, but what about in practice? There are lucrative tax incentives on the table – and not just for couples – but the varying methodologies are likely to appeal to some more than others. Chartered accountant and tax adviser Alan Purcell of CloudAccounts returns to the Money Talks studio this week to map it all out and to answer the question: Is it worth working less to ultimately earn more? “It can be,” Purcell said. “It takes a bit of planning. It’ll take a bit of work. It wouldn’t be for absolutely everybody, but if you have the right infrastructure in place, it can pay to work less. “You could also have some knock-on effects of maybe not even having to pay for childcare, which is actually a huge saving, as we all know, in this day and age.” Host: Katie Byrne Guest: Alan Purcell Money Talks is part of the Trust Project. Ireland’s new investment scheme: The positives and negatives 14.10.2026 30mSimon Harris’s much-hyped investment scheme is official, though there’s still some way to go before you can avail of it. But we’re not going to wait until next summer to analyse and scrutinise it. Cian Carolan, managing director at DNG Financial Services, returns to the Money Talks studio to tease out the forthcoming Personal Investment Account and discuss what you need to know ahead of time. “There’s a couple of things that tell me that they overcomplicated it, overthought it and probably missed out on the simplicity of it,” says Carolan. “The biggest missed opportunity of all is the July start date. We’ve been waiting around all year. We’ve had a lot of clients ourselves who’ve been deferring starting investing in anticipation of this. “They’ve missed out on a really good year so far, at least in terms of investment returns. That’s something that needs to be called out." The negatives and the positives – because there are some of those, too – go under the microscope on this week's episode. Dale Whelehan: If time is money, how do we make more of it? 07.10.2026 31mThe saying goes that time is money and money is time, but how does it all add up - and indeed, subtract - when we apply it to our own specific situation? This week on Money Talks, Katie Byrne is joined by Dale Whelehan, a behavioural scientist and assistant professor at Trinity College Dublin. His research explores why modern life makes many of us feel like we never have enough time, while his latest project, House of Time, helps perpetually busy people find practical solutions. How does the ‘time is money’ mindset apply to our finances? Do we need to cut an entire day from the working week? And would a ‘time audit’ save us, not just hours, but money as well? Why is it ‘vulgar’ for a woman to want to be rich? 30.09.2026 33mWomen’s wealth expert Laura Tynan is on a lifelong mission. Having studied finance at University College Cork, she became a chartered accountant and travelled the world, working in the higher end of the financial industry. But she wasn’t satisfied. Having developed a spiritual and strategic relationship with money, Tynan turned her attention to gender pay disparity, declaring that she doesn’t want to live in a world in which women find themselves on the wrong side of money statistics. In conversation on the Money Talks podcast, she raises a pertinent question: why should it be considered crude for a woman to want to make a lot of money? “My mom stayed at home, my dad went out to work, so growing up I saw that dynamic,” she notes. “Nothing wrong with it, but it was just very evident that dad manages the money and mom stays home and takes care of the kids. “Now, I always knew that I wanted to be rich. And that even sounds vulgar to say, as a woman. But it’s not, right? You have every right to declare you want to be rich. There's nothing dirty about that word. “I saw my mom not having access to her own funds. I saw her talking to my dad and having to negotiate to even just get money to go to the grocery store. And I thought, ‘I don’t want that for me. I want to have my money. I want to be able to make my own decisions.” On this week’s episode of Money Talks, Tynan explains how she took up that journey, how she’s going about her goal to make her daughter a millionaire one day, why she dropped her Witch of Wall Street persona, and the inner work people can adopt to move towards a positive money mindset. Money Makeover: 'We earn €80k combined and don’t know where the money goes’ 23.09.2026 26mEvery month on Money Talks we step away from in-depth how-to guides and entrepreneurial journeys to delve into the personal side of personal finance by assessing a case study submitted by the audience. This time around, we're looking at a young couple with three children, a combined income of €80,000 and major worries about long-term earnings. "Money doesn't have to be a point of anxiety for households," says financial expert Cian Carolan as he and host Katie Byrne run the rule over how to go about reducing stress and the steps that can take the fear out of managing a household budget. "If they were to sit down and honestly drill into the granular details of where their money goes, it would surprise them – but it's all fixable." Money Talks is part of the Trust Project. Financial late bloomers: Getting started, emergency funds and the 'sleep-at-night' factor 16.09.2026 31mAre you the type of person who breaks out into a cold sweat when the prospect of financial planning and management comes up in conversation? Is the phrase 'Ah, I'll do it later' more likely to come out of your mouth than 'five-year plan'? And have you indeed managed to go for years, perhaps even decades, without ever so much as glancing at your annual bank statement? Well, this is the episode for you. This week on Money Talks, host Katie Byrne is joined by Karena Duane, founder of Money, Just For Her, to look at the extremely common and hopefully quite improvable world of the financial late bloomer. "It is never too late," notes Duane as she sets about breaking down the barriers of coming late to managing your money, whether you're on a personal or a professional journey. "I think everybody gets there in the end – it's just about what your priorities have been up until now, and now what your priorities are going forward."
