  • 72. Stay Ready: Faithful in the Waiting 21.10.2026 17m
Have you ever been so busy doing good things that you barely noticed how little time you were spending simply being with God? Sometimes our desire to serve Him faithfully can become tangled with expectations we've placed on ourselves. We keep adding responsibilities, pushing harder, and assuming that doing more means we're being more faithful. But what does Jesus actually teach about spiritual readiness? In this episode, Brenda shares a personal revelation about ministry, performance, and the importance of cultivating her relationship with God. Through Matthew 24:42–46, she explores what it means to remain spiritually attentive and faithful as we await Christ's return. Readiness is something we cultivate through our relationship with God and the way we live each day.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER What Jesus teaches about spiritual readiness in Matthew 24:42–46 Why staying attentive involves more than maintaining religious routines How to recognize the difference between God-given responsibilities and self-imposed expectations Why faithfulness is measured by more than how much we accomplish How familiar thinking patterns can influence our priorities and decisions Why remaining connected to God and other believers matters as we await Christ's return   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL Matthew 24:42–46 reminds us to remain watchful and faithful because we do not know when Jesus will return. His teaching directs our attention toward how we live and steward what has been entrusted to us. Romans 12:2 teaches us to be transformed through the renewing of our minds. Sometimes that renewal involves examining beliefs we've carried for years, including the assumption that doing more makes us more valuable or faithful. As we bring those beliefs before God, His Word helps us reconsider the expectations shaping our choices. Hebrews 10:23–25 reminds us to hold firmly to our hope, encourage one another, and remain connected with other believers. Spiritual readiness includes strengthening one another as we continue walking with Christ.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: STAY READY This week, consider three areas of your life: Stay Attentive What has been receiving most of your attention lately? Are you remaining personally engaged with God as you move through your daily responsibilities? Stay Faithful Consider what God has entrusted to you in this season. Have you added expectations that are making those responsibilities heavier than they need to be? Stay Connected Are you receiving and offering encouragement within the body of Christ, or have you gradually become isolated? Choose one area to bring into an honest conversation with God this week. Then identify one faithful response you can practice.   🪔 KEEP YOUR OIL FULL: 21-DAY DEVOTIONAL Days 8–14, Stay Ready: Faithful in the Waiting, accompany this episode. Each day guides you through the O.I.L. rhythm: O: Open the WordI: Interact Honestly With GodL: Live What He Shows You These seven days focus on attentiveness, stewardship, grace, perseverance, encouragement, and living with hope as we anticipate Jesus' return. • 71. How to Grow Closer to God: A Simple Daily Rhythm 14.10.2026 15m
You can read your Bible, complete a devotional, listen to worship music, and pray, yet still finish without connecting what you received to the life you are actually living. These practices can support spiritual growth, but growing closer to God requires personal participation. It happens as you slow down, give His Word your attention, talk honestly with Him, and respond to the truth He brings before you. In this Application Episode, Brenda introduces O.I.L., a simple daily rhythm for engaging personally with God: O: Open the Word I: Interact honestly with God L: Live what He shows you You do not need hours of uninterrupted time, an impressive prayer vocabulary, or a perfect routine. You can begin with one passage, one honest conversation, and one faithful response.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER Why spiritual activity and personal engagement with God are not always the same thing How a simple rhythm can help you become more intentional in your relationship with God Practical questions to ask as you read Scripture Why honest conversation with God supports biblical mind renewal How one faithful response helps truth become part of the way you think and live Why consistency does not require a powerful emotional experience every day   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL Second Timothy 3 teaches that Scripture corrects, trains, and equips us. Opening the Word gives God’s truth our attention, but the goal is not simply to complete a reading. We slow down so we can notice what the passage reveals about God and how its truth connects with the life we are living. Psalm 62:8 invites us to pour out our hearts before God. Honest interaction allows Scripture and real life to meet in conversation with Him. We can bring Him our questions, fears, resistance, gratitude, and confusion without pretending. James 1:22 reminds us not only to hear the Word, but to do what it says. As we repeatedly respond to biblical truth, we give our minds a new response to practice. Over time, those choices can help establish healthier patterns in how we think, choose, and respond.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: THE O.I.L. RHYTHM Use the O.I.L. Rhythm during your time with God this week: Open the Word Choose a passage small enough that you can slow down and give it your attention. Read it once to understand what it says. Read it again and notice what stands out. Ask: “What does this passage reveal about God?” & “What truth needs my attention today?” Interact honestly with God Bring Him what the passage connects with in your life. Tell Him what encouraged you, confused you, challenged you, or touched something you are currently facing. Then return to the passage and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand how its truth applies. Live what He shows you Ask: “What is one faithful response You are inviting me to make?” Your response may involve believing God’s truth when fear rises, apologizing, forgiving, pausing before reacting, making a phone call, setting a healthy boundary, or surrendering an outcome you cannot control. Choose one response that is specific and realistic for today. This week, Days 1–7 of the 21-Day Keep Your Oil Full Devotional will guide you through this rhythm one day at a time. • 70. Keep Your Oil Full: Spiritual Readiness and Your Personal Relationship With God 07.10.2026 16m
It is possible to fill your day with Christian content and still neglect your personal relationship with God. In EP70, Brenda begins the four-week Keep Your Oil Full series by examining Jesus’ parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:1–13. The primary message of this parable is spiritual readiness. While Scripture does not specifically define what the oil represents, the preparation of the wise women helps us recognize an important truth: spiritual readiness cannot be borrowed from someone else. A sermon can teach you. A devotional can guide you. Another person can pray for and encourage you. But no one else can open God’s Word, talk honestly with Him, respond to His direction, or cultivate your relationship with Him for you.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER What the parable of the ten virgins teaches about spiritual readiness Why religious appearance does not always reveal what has been cultivated within us How delays, disappointment, temptation, and unanswered prayer can reveal and develop our faith Why spiritual preparation happens during ordinary days Why another person’s relationship with God cannot be transferred to you The difference between recognizing biblical truth and personally living from it How Christian content can become a signpost leading you toward God   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL In Matthew 25:1–13, all ten women expected the bridegroom, carried lamps, and appeared prepared. The difference became visible when the wait lasted longer than expected. In the same way, delays, disappointments, and pressure can reveal what we believe about God and what has been sustaining us. However, difficult seasons do more than expose what is already there. James 1:2–4 and Romans 5:3–5 remind us that, when we remain connected to God, these experiences can also develop perseverance, strengthen our character, and establish hope. Mind renewal happens as we repeatedly bring our thoughts, reactions, and experiences into agreement with God’s truth. Simply recognizing a familiar Scripture is not the same as living from it. Transformation requires us to personally engage with what God is showing us, return to His truth when our feelings pull us elsewhere, and practice one faithful response at a time. Spiritual readiness is cultivated through these ordinary moments of attention, trust, and obedience. Other people can teach and encourage us, but they cannot renew our minds or develop our relationship with God for us. Christian content can point us toward truth, but personal engagement with God allows that truth to become integrated into how we think and live.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: TAKE THE O.I.L. CHECK-UP This week’s companion resource, The O.I.L. Check-Up, will help you examine your personal relationship with God and notice where He may be inviting you to grow. O.I.L. stands for: 1) Open the Word, 2) Interact honestly with God, and 3) Live what He shows you. The Check-Up will help you consider how personally you are engaging in each area and whether the spiritual content you consume is leading you into greater connection with God. This is not a spiritual scorecard or another religious checklist. Use the questions as prayer and conversation with God. Notice where your relationship with Him feels personal and active, as well as where it may have become passive, hurried, or dependent on other people. You can access the weekly resource in two ways: Join the Mind Renewal Made Simple Facebook Communityhttps://bit.ly/mindrenewalsolutions Join the Day One Insider to receive the weekly resource and Friday Renewal Practice by emailhttps://bit.ly/Join-Day-One-Insiders You do not need to change everything at once. • 69. How to Calm Anxiety in the Moment: 3 Steps to Interrupt Anxious Thought Patterns 30.09.2026 15m
What do you do when anxiety rises before you have had time to think clearly? Maybe you immediately start analyzing the situation, searching for reassurance, trying to solve the problem, or reacting to a conclusion that has not actually been confirmed. EP69 is the Application Episode that follows last week’s teaching on anxiety, faith, and identity. This week, we move from understanding anxiety to practicing what to do when your body reacts and your mind begins building a fearful story. You will learn a simple three-step process: Regulate the body. Evaluate the thought. Challenge the pattern. The goal is not to deny anxiety or force yourself to become perfectly calm. It is to create enough space between the anxious signal and your response so you can separate what actually happened from what fear is predicting and choose your next response more intentionally.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER Why trying to “think your way out” of anxiety may not be the most helpful first step How to use a brief pause to help your body settle before evaluating the situation How to separate a fact from the anxious story your mind attaches to it Why learned beliefs can make certain situations feel threatening before you have enough information How to challenge “What if?” thinking with an “Even if” response grounded in truth and trust in God   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL In 2 Corinthians 10:5, Paul speaks about confronting arguments and thoughts that set themselves against the knowledge of God and bringing them into obedience to Christ. In an anxious moment, that gives us an important question: Does the conclusion my mind is making agree with what is actually true and with what Christ says is true? Mind renewal does not require pretending the feeling is not real. It gives us a way to examine the conclusion attached to the feeling and decide whether we want that conclusion directing our response. This is where faith and participation meet. We bring the anxious pattern into awareness, invite the Holy Spirit into the process, and practice responding to truth rather than automatically following fear. YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: REGULATE BEFORE YOU EVALUATE This week’s companion resource, Regulate Before You Evaluate: A 3-Step Practice for Responding to Anxiety in Real Time, was created to help you carry the episode teaching into real-life anxious moments. The goal is to give you a simple visual reminder you can return to when anxiety rises and clear thinking feels harder. Rather than trying to remember every point from the episode, use the resource to help you pause, recognize what is happening, and practice a more intentional response over time. • 68. Does Anxiety Mean You Lack Faith? Why Christians Can Love God and Still Struggle 23.09.2026 13m
If you really trusted God, would you still feel anxious? Many Christians quietly ask that question when fear, worry, or an anxious response shows up again. The anxiety itself can be difficult, but the shame and spiritual judgment attached to it can create an entirely different struggle. In this Core Episode, Brenda explores the relationship between anxiety and faith and explains why feeling anxious does not automatically mean your faith is weak. Through Scripture, mind renewal, a personal story, and an accessible look at learned brain and body responses, you will begin separating what anxiety feels like from what it actually says about who you are. The goal is not to pretend anxiety is irrelevant or accept worry as your permanent identity. It is to understand what is happening accurately so you can bring it to God and increasingly respond from truth instead of shame.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER Why anxiety does not automatically mean that your faith has failed The difference between experiencing a feeling and allowing that feeling to define what is true Why salvation gives you a new identity while mind renewal remains an ongoing process How learned associations can cause your brain and body to react quickly to familiar situations Why a familiar pattern is not the same thing as your God-given identity   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL Philippians 4:6-8 does more than tell believers not to live in anxiety. Paul gives us a response. We are invited to bring what troubles us to God through prayer and thanksgiving and then become intentional about what we allow our minds to dwell on. That brings together relationship with God and mental participation. Proverbs 3:5-6 adds another important truth: trust does not require us to stop thinking. It means we refuse to treat our own limited understanding as the final authority. You can acknowledge what you feel, bring it honestly to God, and still choose to lean into what He says is true.     YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: SEPARATE THE SIGNAL FROM YOUR IDENTITY Spend some time this week becoming more aware of how anxiety shows up for you. When it does, consider two questions: What am I making this anxiety mean about me, God, or my faith? Has anxiety started becoming part of the way I describe myself? Maybe you have been thinking, “I should be further along by now,” or you hear yourself saying, “I am just a worrier.” Pause before accepting that conclusion. You may have practiced worry for years, but worry does not get to define you. Awareness does not complete the renewal process, but it gives you a place to begin. We will keep building on this topic inside the Mind Renewal Made Simple Facebook Community and through the Day One Insider Newsletter, where you will receive continued encouragement, reflection, and practical application. • 67. Choosing Rest Without Guilt: A Real-Life Mind Renewal Moment 16.09.2026 5m
After two weeks of teaching about physical, soul, and spiritual rest, Brenda recognized that God was not only speaking through her to the listeners. He was also speaking directly to her. Months of writing, publishing, podcasting, coaching, conferences, and ministry preparation had left her tired and off balance. She could push herself to produce another regular episode, but at what cost? In this short, personal episode, Brenda shares the conversation that helped her recognize when commitment had crossed into internal striving. You will hear how she used the Faith-Rest Reset to make a real-time decision and why choosing rest does not mean you are irresponsible, abandoning your commitment, or failing to show up. Sometimes mind renewal means receiving the same truth you would lovingly offer someone else.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER Why knowing what you need and permitting yourself to receive it can be two different things How a sincere commitment can quietly become pressure to keep producing at any cost Why choosing rest does not mean that you are irresponsible or have stopped caring How Brenda applied the Faith-Rest Reset to her own schedule and ministry Why rest may be the next faithful step when continued effort comes with an unnecessary cost SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL EP65 and EP66 explore the biblical foundation for physical, soul, and spiritual rest, including the teaching in Hebrews 4. Biblical rest does not require us to become passive or neglect what God has entrusted to us. It teaches us to act faithfully while trusting God with what only He can carry. EP67 shows what that truth looks like in real life. Brenda could have continued pushing herself to maintain the expected schedule. Mind renewal helped her pause and reconsider the belief that faithfulness always required producing one more episode. Choosing a different response did not weaken her commitment to the ministry. It allowed her to honor what God was showing her about balance, surrender, and receiving rest. YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: RECEIVE YOUR OWN COUNSEL Consider one area where you feel pressure to keep pushing. Ask yourself: What has God actually given me to do? What outcome am I trying to manage or guarantee? What would I advise someone I love if that person were carrying the same level of pressure? What is my next faithful step? Your next step may involve completing something important. It may also involve asking for help, postponing something, changing your expectations, or allowing yourself to rest. You do not have to abandon every responsibility to create a healthier rhythm. Begin by becoming honest about the cost of continuing to push and whether every demand you feel is something God has actually asked you to carry. CONTINUE THE JOURNEY This personal episode is a real-life application of the teaching and resources introduced in EP65 and EP66. EP65: Feeling Overwhelmed? • 66. Feeling Overwhelmed? How to Find Rest and Reduce Stress in a Busy Season (Part 2) 09.09.2026 16m
Have you ever prayed about a situation, placed it in God’s hands, and then spent the rest of the day mentally trying to solve it yourself? You may care deeply, want to act responsibly, and genuinely desire to do the right thing. But when you begin rehearsing conversations, predicting problems, or trying to guarantee an outcome, responsibility may have quietly crossed into control. In this Application Episode, Brenda explains why your mind may remain on duty even when there is nothing more you can responsibly do. Through Hebrews 4 and the three-part Faith-Rest Reset, you will learn how to identify what God has entrusted to you, release what was never yours to control, and take one faithful step with the Holy Spirit.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER Why physically stopping and internally resting are not always the same thing How faithful responsibility can quietly become internal striving and control What Hebrews 4 teaches about faith, obedience, and entering God’s rest How to distinguish what belongs to you from what belongs to God, another person, or a future moment A three-part mind-renewal practice for releasing the outcome and choosing your next faithful step     SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL Hebrews 4 points to something deeper than physical relaxation or emotional relief. It describes the rest God makes available to those who respond to Him in faith. God’s rest does not call us to become passive or careless. We remain faithful to what He has given us to do while trusting Him with what only He can do. Hebrews 4:10–11 brings these truths together. We are invited to rest from our works as God rested from His, while also making every effort to enter that rest. That effort is not striving to create a restful feeling. It is intentionally choosing faith and obedience when fear tempts us to take control. Mind renewal happens as we recognize the old pattern and practice a different response. We can care deeply without assuming responsibility for how the entire story unfolds.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: THE FAITH-REST RESET Use the Faith-Rest Reset when you notice pressure building, your thoughts circling, or your mind trying to manage an outcome. This two-page resource includes a concise reference guide and a reusable worksheet to help you apply the three-part practice to one situation that is keeping your mind on duty. • 65. Feeling Overwhelmed? How to Find Rest and Reduce Stress in a Busy Season (Part 1) 02.09.2026 14m
You finally sit down after a long day, but the pressure does not stop. Your mind continues reviewing what happened, preparing for tomorrow, and reminding you of everything that remains unfinished. Physically stopping and internally resting are not always the same thing. Learned beliefs about productivity, responsibility, and control can make rest uncomfortable. Your body’s stress response may also remain active even after the immediate demands have ended. This Core Episode will help you understand why rest can feel difficult and introduce three interconnected types of rest: physical, soul, and spiritual. You will also begin a simple Rest Audit to identify where you may need greater care without turning rest into another task to complete perfectly.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER How learned beliefs can make rest feel lazy, unsafe, or irresponsible Why your internal stress response may remain active after you stop moving The difference between physical, soul, and spiritual rest How Jesus’ invitation to rest includes relationship and dependence How to identify one area of rest that may need greater attention   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL Genesis 2 shows that rest was part of God’s design from the beginning. God did not rest because He was depleted. He ceased from His completed work and established a rhythm of work and rest within creation. In Matthew 11:28–29, Jesus invites weary and burdened people to come to Him, take His yoke, and learn from Him. He does not promise a life without responsibility. He offers a different way to carry responsibility under His leadership and in relationship with Him. Mind renewal helps us recognize the beliefs beneath our patterns. When the Holy Spirit brings an old belief about rest to the surface, we can ask whether it agrees with God’s truth and the way He designed us to live.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: THE REST AUDIT Consider three areas of rest: Physical rest: Where might your body be asking for greater care or recovery? Soul rest: What thoughts, emotions, or sources of input may be keeping your internal engine revving? Spiritual rest: Where might God be inviting you to receive from Him and depend on Him more deeply? Do not try to correct everything at once. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you which area needs your attention right now. • 64. What Are You Agreeing With? An Identity Reset 26.08.2026 16m
Have you ever dismissed an opportunity because one thought immediately told you, “You are not qualified,” “You will fail again,” or “Someone else could do it better”? A thought entering your mind does not automatically mean you agree with it. An agreement begins forming when you repeatedly accept that message as a reliable description of who you are, what you should expect, or what is possible for your future. In this Application Episode, you will move from awareness to action through the five-step Identity Reset. You will learn how to recognize one practiced message, uncover the agreement beneath it, compare it with God’s truth, and choose one faithful action that keeps the old agreement from making the decision for you. Originally created as part of the EPIC Women’s Conference collection, this practical teaching is for anyone ready to stop allowing an old message to define their identity or limit their next step.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER The difference between experiencing a thought and agreeing with it How a present limitation can become an identity statement and a verdict about your future Why “I do not know how to do this yet” is different from “I am incapable” How the five-step Identity Reset supports Christian mind renewal Why one faithful action can begin reinforcing a response aligned with God’s truth   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL In Judges 6, Gideon responded to God’s calling by describing himself according to his history: his clan was the weakest, and he was the least in his family. God did not ask Gideon to manufacture confidence in his natural abilities. He gave Gideon a greater truth: “I will be with you.” Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works He prepared for us to do. Our confidence does not have to rest entirely on our past, present skill level, or ability to feel qualified. Mind renewal helps us recognize where an old agreement conflicts with what God has said. Through Scripture and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can practice responding from our God-given identity rather than allowing fear, shame, or self-disqualification to choose for us.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: THE IDENTITY RESET Choose one message that tends to become louder when you consider moving toward something God has placed on your heart. Use the five-step Identity Reset: Recognize: What are the exact words of the message? Reveal: What have you come to believe about yourself because of it? Examine: What has this agreement been producing in your choices? Realign: Where does the agreement conflict with God’s Word? Reinforce: What is one faithful action that agrees with God’s truth? Your action does not need to commit you to the entire opportunity. It might mean praying, gathering information, scheduling a conversation, or researching the preparation you would need.   Identity Reset Companion GuideUse the five-step framework and seven-day practice to work through one message and reinforce your new agreement.  👇Download it below: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lkaa4k2_XBAiPD2Pd_-wSTlDPt5_GMSX/view?usp=sharing   Mindset Reset Series, EP35 through EP38Explore how broader mindsets are formed and how they influence identity and behavior.https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqMFhVmBFotxSb45ZNmCpLHWghChIoSfy&si=qLZX_IwIOg5brAWb   CONNECT WITH DAY ONE OF SOBRIETY 🗞️Join the DAY ONE INSIDER for weekly encouragement and practical tools for mind renewal: https://bit.ly/4hEYsI4 💬Connect with the Mind Renewal Made Simple Facebook Community: https://bit.ly/mindrenewalsolutions 🌐 Learn more about Day One of Sobriety Ministries: https://day1ofsobriety.org/ 📖 Explore Brenda Kennison’s book, Trapped in Your Thoughts: https://a.co/d/0b03SCtb Ready to begin a relationship with Jesus? https://tryjesuschallenge.com/   DISCLAIMER The information shared in this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only. • 63. When Your Past Speaks Louder Than Your Purpose 19.08.2026 14m
Sometimes the loudest voice competing with your purpose comes from something that happened years ago. You may love God, know you are forgiven, and believe His Word, yet still hear familiar messages saying you are unqualified, permanently damaged, or destined to fail again. Those messages can quietly influence how you interpret opportunities, relationships, and your future. Originally created for the EPIC Women’s Conference, this foundational episode is now being shared with the full Day One of Sobriety community because the struggle to separate identity from history affects people of every age and background. Through personal testimony, the story of Gideon, biblical truth, and a practical understanding of learned thought patterns, you will discover why familiar does not always mean true. Your past may explain some of the patterns you developed, but it does not have the authority to define your identity or determine your purpose.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER Why Christians can know they are forgiven and still feel stuck in an identity shaped by shame How past experiences can become a lens, produce an identity label, and create a limit Why an old protective pattern can interfere with growth in a new season What Gideon’s response to God reveals about history, confidence, and calling How awareness helps separate a practiced message from the truth God is speaking   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works He prepared for us. Our history does not cancel that identity or remove us from God’s purpose. Gideon struggled to see himself according to God’s calling. When God called him a mighty warrior, Gideon answered through the lens of his family history and perceived inadequacy. God responded with a greater truth: “I will be with you” (Judges 6). Romans 12:2 shows us how we begin living from the identity we have received in Christ. Transformation involves the renewing of our minds. Salvation establishes our identity, while mind renewal teaches us to think, choose, and live from it.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: NOTICE THE MESSAGE When you imagine taking a step toward healing, growth, or something God has placed on your heart, notice what message from your past becomes louder. Ask yourself: “When I begin moving toward God’s purpose, what message from my past tries to stop me?” Write down the first message that comes to mind. It might sound like: “I will fail again.” “I am not qualified.” “I have waited too long.” “My voice does not matter.” Do not argue with the message or try to solve it yet. Simply name it. An old thought surfacing does not mean you have failed or that the message is true. Awareness helps you recognize the difference between a thought you have practiced and the identity God has given you.   CONTINUE THE JOURNEY This Core Episode provides the foundation for EP64, What Are You Agreeing With? A Guided Identity Reset. In the Application Episode, you will learn how to recognize one message from your past, reveal the agreement beneath it, examine what it has produced, realign it with God’s truth, and reinforce that truth through one faithful action.   CONNECT WITH DAY ONE OF SOBRIETY 🗞️Join the DAY ONE INSIDER for weekly encouragement and practical tools for mind renewal: https://bit.ly/4hEYsI4 💬Connect with the Mind Renewal Made Simple Facebook Community: https://bit.ly/mindrenewalsolutions 🌐 Learn more about Day One of Sobriety Ministries: https://day1ofsobriety.org/ 📖 Explore Brenda Kennison’s book, Trapped in Your Thoughts: https://a.co/d/0b03SCtb Ready to begin a relationship with Jesus? https://tryjesuschallenge.com/   DISCLAIMER The information shared in this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only. • 62. How to Defuse Anger: The R.U.L.E. Method 12.08.2026 15m
You recognize the tightening in your jaw or the heat rising in your chest. Maybe you feel yourself beginning to shut down and pull away. You know anger is taking over, but you still do not know what to do next. Awareness matters, but awareness alone does not change a your response. You need a practical off-ramp between recognizing the signal and automatically exploding, withdrawing, or saying something you regret. This Application Episode introduces the R.U.L.E. Method: Recognize, Understand, Loosen, and Engage. You will learn how a small physical action can help your reasoning brain rejoin the moment so you can respond from truth instead of autopilot. You do not need to practice every step perfectly. This week begins with one manageable response that can help you stay present when the anger alarm fires.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER Why recognizing an anger signal does not automatically change your response How anger can temporarily move faster than your reasoning and decision-making Why the R.U.L.E. Method begins by working with your body The difference between suppressing anger and ruling over your response How one slow breath or loosened muscle can create space for a wiser choice   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL In Genesis 4, God warns Cain that sin is crouching at his door and desires to have him, but Cain must rule over it. God does not tell Cain to pretend the anger is not there. He calls Cain to remain in authority over what he does with it. Ruling over anger does not mean suppressing the emotion or allowing it to control your words and actions. It means recognizing what is happening and yielding your response to God. Galatians 5 identifies self-control as fruit produced by the Holy Spirit. This means you are not left to manage anger through willpower alone. As you yield to the Holy Spirit and participate in the renewal process, you can practice a different response. When anger has already led to harmful words or disconnection, Ephesians 4:26 reminds us not to allow anger to remain unresolved. Returning to repair what was damaged is also part of ruling over anger.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: LOOSEN THE ALARM The complete R.U.L.E. Method includes four steps: Recognize the signal Understand what may be underneath it Loosen the physical tension Engage from truth instead of autopilot This week, do not pressure yourself to use all four steps perfectly. Choose one situation where you commonly feel anger rise or feel the urge to shut down. When you notice the first signal, practice Loosen: Unclench your jaw Drop your shoulders Uncross your arms Plant both feet on the floor Take one slow breath Name one thing you can see in the room If needed, say, “Give me one second,” before responding. This small physical action helps communicate to your nervous system that you are safe enough to remain present. It creates space for the reasoning part of your brain to participate in what happens next. You may remember the practice after the moment has passed. That does not mean you failed. Repeatedly recognizing and practicing the response helps strengthen a healthier pathway over time.   CONTINUE THE JOURNEY EP62 is the Application Episode that builds upon EP61: Anger: Why We Explode or Shut Down. EP61 explains why anger can appear as either an explosion or a shutdown and introduces Signal Awareness. • 61. Anger: Why We Explode or Shut Down 05.08.2026 16m
Maybe it was not really about the spilled cereal. Your voice came out sharper than you intended. You shut down during a conversation. You slammed a cabinet door, walked away, or said something you regretted later. Then came the question: “Where did that reaction come from?” Anger is often treated as a character flaw or spiritual failure, especially within the church. But feeling angry is not the same as sinning in anger. Anger can be a signal that something underneath the surface needs your attention. In this Core Episode, Brenda explores why some people explode while others shut down, what may be happening in the brain when anger rises, and how Scripture teaches us to recognize anger without allowing it to rule us. You will also begin practicing Signal Awareness, a foundational mind-renewal skill that can help you notice anger’s physical warning signs and identify what the emotion may be protecting.   IN THIS EPISODE, YOU’LL DISCOVER Why anger itself is not a sin, although our response to it can become harmful How anger may be connected to exhaustion, fear, crossed boundaries, disappointment, or feeling unheard Why shutting down, withdrawing, or becoming sarcastic can also be expressions of anger What happens when the brain’s threat response activates before the reasoning part of the brain fully engages How Signal Awareness can help you recognize anger before it becomes an explosion or shutdown   SCRIPTURE AND MIND RENEWAL When Cain became angry, God did not tell him to deny the emotion. He asked, “Why are you angry?” and warned him not to allow sin to rule what happened next (Genesis 4:6–7). Ephesians 4:26–27 makes the same distinction: “In your anger do not sin.” Scripture acknowledges that anger will come while teaching us to respond to it wisely. James 1:19–20 instructs us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Slow does not mean never. Slow is a pace we can learn to practice. These passages remind us that anger is not something we must hide in shame. It is something we can bring into God’s light, examine honestly, and learn to manage as our minds are renewed.   YOUR RENEWAL PRACTICE: SIGNAL AWARENESS Choose one relationship in which you are most likely to explode or shut down. The next time you feel the first flicker of anger, pause and notice where it appears in your body. It may feel like a tightening jaw, heat in your chest, clenched hands, heaviness, or the urge to withdraw. Then ask: What am I feeling in my body? What might be underneath this anger? What could this reaction be revealing? You may recognize exhaustion, fear, disappointment, disrespect, a crossed boundary, or the feeling that you are not being heard. Do not wait until you have already exploded or completely shut down. Your practice is to catch one familiar signal a little earlier and connect it to what may be happening beneath the surface. You are not trying to correct every reaction at once. You are strengthening your awareness so you can begin creating space between the emotion and your response. Awareness comes before transformation. You can wire out whatever you’ve wired in.   CONTINUE THE JOURNEY This is the Core Episode in a two-part conversation about anger. In EP62, Brenda will introduce a practical, in-the-moment response for when the heat is already rising or you feel yourself beginning to withdraw.   CONNECT WITH DAY ONE OF SOBRIETY 🗞️Join the DAY ONE INSIDER for weekly encouragement and practical tools for mind renewal: https://bit.ly/4hEYsI4 💬Connect with the Mind Renewal Made Simple Facebook Community: https://bit.ly/mindrenewalsolutions 🌐 Learn more about Day One of Sobriety Ministries: https://day1ofsobriety.org/ 📖 Explore Brenda Kennison’s book, Trapped in Your Thoughts: https://a.co/d/0b03SCtb Ready to begin a relationship with Jesus? https://tryjesuschallenge.com/ 🤩 If this episode encouraged you, share it with someone who may be carrying shame about anger or struggling with a
  • 60. Why Christians Need Community for Mind Renewal and Lasting Change 29.07.2026 12m
Mind renewal does not happen in isolation. Although renewing your mind is deeply personal, God designed healing and transformation to flourish through relationship and community. In this episode, Brenda explores why consuming Christian content is not the same as being truly known, supported, and encouraged by others. Drawing from the early church, Scripture, and years of coaching experience, she explains why safe relationships are essential to lasting freedom. You’ll be invited to consider who knows the real you, who walks beside you when life becomes difficult, and how God may be calling you to offer encouragement and hope to someone else.   🔑 Key Episode Insights God created us for relationship with Him and with one another. Even before sin entered the world, He declared that it was not good for humanity to be alone. Healing often accelerates when you feel safe enough to be honest, known, and supported by trusted people. Podcasts, books, and online content can encourage and teach you, but they cannot replace people who pray with you, challenge you, and help carry your burdens. The early church practiced discipleship as a shared lifestyle through teaching, fellowship, prayer, meals, encouragement, and practical support. Isolation can reinforce shame, fear, and unhealthy thought patterns. Community helps restore perspective and reminds you of your identity in Christ. Your mind renewal journey is not only about what you receive. God can also use your experience, wisdom, and healing to encourage someone else.   🧠 Why This Matters Your brain and nervous system are influenced by the relationships surrounding you. Safe, supportive connections can help reduce isolation, strengthen emotional regulation, and create an environment where healthier thoughts and responses can develop. Biblical community also helps you live from your identity in Christ. When fear, shame, or disappointment distort what you believe, trusted people can remind you of truth and encourage you to keep moving toward healing and freedom.   🛠 Practical Mind Renewal Tool(s) This week's reflection exercise invites you to spend time with the Holy Spirit exploring three powerful questions: Who knows the real you? Not the version you present on social media. Not the version that smiles and says, “I’m fine.” Who knows the person behind the smile? Who walks beside you? Who has permission to ask you hard questions? Who can lovingly challenge you when you’re drifting? Who reminds you of who you are when you’ve forgotten? Who are you helping? Mind renewal is not only something we receive. It is something we share. Who in your life may need the encouragement, wisdom, and hope God has been building in you? As you sit with these questions, ask the Lord to show you whether your next step is reaching out, allowing someone closer, joining a supportive community, or offering encouragement to someone else. Mind renewal is deeply personal, but it was never intended to be private.    Ready to Take Your Mind Renewal Journey Deeper? I’m looking for five people who are ready to stop feeling stuck, move beyond old patterns and identities, and begin applying the truth they know in practical, everyday ways. • 59. Why Christians Stay Stuck: The Missing Piece of Transformation 22.07.2026 15m
Many Christians long for change, yet find themselves repeating the same patterns, carrying the same fears, and telling the same stories about who they are. In this episode, Brenda explores why transformation can feel so difficult, even when we desperately want it. Through the stories of the Israelites, the man at the Pool of Bethesda, and her own healing journey, she uncovers the missing piece of lasting transformation: learning to let go of what is familiar and partner with God in the renewal of the mind. If you've ever wondered why you still feel stuck despite loving God, this conversation will remind you that lasting change is possible. Freedom begins when we stop agreeing with our past and start agreeing with what God says is true about us.   🔑 Key Episode Insights Familiar doesn't always mean healthy. Sometimes it simply means practiced. Mind renewal is not a self-improvement project. It's a partnership with God. Lasting transformation requires us to release old identities and embrace who God says we are in Christ. Neuroscience confirms that familiar thought patterns are easier to repeat, but new pathways can be built through intentional practice and faith. God never asks us to transform ourselves. He simply invites us to trust Him with the next step. Transformation isn't becoming someone else. It's becoming who God created you to be.   🧠 Why This Matters Many of us assume we're stuck because we lack discipline, motivation, or faith. More often, we're simply attached to what feels familiar. Mind renewal helps us recognize the difference. When we learn to identify old thought patterns, release unhealthy identities, and agree with God's truth, we begin experiencing the freedom and peace He intended for us all along. Transformation doesn't happen overnight, but it is available to every believer willing to take the next step.     🛠 Practical Mind Renewal Tool(s) This week's reflection exercise invites you to spend time with the Holy Spirit exploring three powerful questions: What feels familiar in your life right now? What does it do for you? What is God asking you to leave behind? What old identity are you still carrying that Jesus already nailed to the cross? Who would I be if I no longer introduced myself through this struggle? You'll also complete two simple statements designed to reveal where fear may still be competing with faith and where God is inviting you into greater freedom and identity in Christ. Without my struggle, I am afraid I would be ___________. In Christ, I am ___________.   🎉 One Year of Hope Celebration This week, we continue celebrating one year of renewed minds through the One Year of Hope Celebration. Your voice matters. • 58. 5 Life-Changing Lessons I've Learned About Renewing the Mind 15.07.2026 16m
Have you ever found yourself asking, "Why do I keep repeating the same patterns?" In this special anniversary episode, Brenda reflects on one year of the Day One of Sobriety podcast and shares five life-changing lessons God has taught her about mind renewal, healing, and lasting transformation. Through the lens of Scripture and neuroscience, you'll discover that change isn't mysterious, reserved for a select few, or dependent on stronger willpower. You'll learn why applying truth matters more than collecting information, how awareness begins the renewal process, why identity in Christ is foundational, and how repetition and relationship play a vital role in emotional healing and freedom. If you've ever wondered whether lasting change is possible, this episode will remind you that God designed your mind to be renewed.   🔑 Key Episode Insights Lasting transformation begins when truth moves from something you know to something you intentionally practice. Awareness is the first step in mind renewal. You can't renew a thought you never recognize. Your identity in Christ is stronger than your willpower and influences the choices you make every day. Repetition is not failure. It is one of the ways God designed us to participate in the renewal process. Lasting transformation is deeply personal, but it was never meant to happen in isolation. Scripture reveals the process of renewal, and neuroscience helps us understand how God designed our minds to change.   🧠 Why This Matters Many believers love God and sincerely want to change, yet still feel stuck in the same thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This episode reminds us that transformation is not about trying harder. It's about partnering with God as He renews our minds one thought, one choice, and one day at a time. When we understand how God designed us to grow, we can stop feeling defeated by the process and begin embracing it. Mind renewal brings greater peace, emotional regulation, confidence in our identity, and hope that lasting change is possible.     🛠 Practical Mind Renewal Tool Five Questions for Mind Renewal This week's practical tool is a downloadable one-page reflection guide featuring the five questions explored throughout the episode. • 57. How Renewing My Mind Changed Everything: The Story Behind Day One of Sobriety 08.07.2026 15m
One year ago, the Day One of Sobriety podcast began with one mission: helping people discover freedom through the renewal of their minds. In this special anniversary episode, Brenda shares the story behind Day One of Sobriety, how God used her own journey of healing and transformation, and why changing behavior was never the real answer. True transformation begins when we allow God to renew our thoughts, beliefs, and identity. You’ll discover how Scripture and neuroscience reveal that change is possible, why information alone does not create transformation, and how applying God’s truth daily leads to lasting freedom.   🔑 Key Episode Insights Why destructive habits and unhealthy patterns are often symptoms of deeper thoughts, beliefs, and identity struggles How Romans 12:2 reveals God’s design for transformation through renewing the mind Why understanding how God created the brain to change helps us break free from old thought patterns The difference between simply knowing truth and learning how to apply it in everyday life How one step of obedience grew into a global community of people seeking healing, hope, and renewed minds Why God does not waste the parts of our story we surrender to Him   🧠 Why This Matters Many people love God and genuinely want to change, but still find themselves asking, “Why am I still stuck?” Mind renewal helps us understand that transformation is not about trying harder to manage outward behavior. It is about allowing God to renew the thoughts, beliefs, and patterns shaping how we see ourselves and live each day. Freedom is found as we move from simply hearing truth to practicing it.   🎉 One Year of Hope Celebration This week, we are celebrating one year of renewed minds through the One Year of Hope Celebration. • 56. Rebuilding Connection: Healing Loneliness Through Mind Renewal 01.07.2026 16m
Healing from loneliness isn't about waiting for life to suddenly feel different. It's about taking small, intentional steps that move you from isolation toward connection. In this final episode of The Hidden Cost of Loneliness series, Brenda shares practical, faith-based strategies for reconnecting with God, yourself, and others while renewing your mind with God's truth. If you've recognized the walls you've built, uncovered the stories loneliness has been telling you, or long to experience deeper healing and freedom, this episode will help you move from awareness into action. You'll discover how Scripture, neuroscience, and practical mind renewal work together to create lasting transformation, one renewed thought at a time.   🔑 Key Episode Insights Healing from loneliness is built through small, intentional choices rather than one dramatic breakthrough. Renewing your mind begins with replacing the stories loneliness has rehearsed with God's truth. Honest connection with God creates space for healing as we bring our thoughts and emotions into His presence. Reconnecting with yourself starts by becoming aware of what you're truly feeling instead of avoiding or suppressing your emotions. Healthy relationships are rebuilt one safe step at a time, creating new experiences that strengthen hope, trust, and emotional resilience. The Holy Spirit partners with us throughout the transformation process, guiding us toward truth, healing, and lasting freedom.   🧠 Why This Matters Loneliness often convinces us that isolation is safer than connection. Left unchallenged, those repeated thoughts become patterns that shape our identity, relationships, and emotional well-being. The good news is that God designed both our minds and our brains to change. As we intentionally choose truth over fear and connection over isolation, we begin creating new pathways of healing. Mind renewal isn't simply changing what we think. It's partnering with God to become who He created us to be.   🛠 Practical Mind Renewal Tool The Connection Rebuild Plan This week's practical resource helps you move from understanding into application by identifying one intentional step toward reconnecting with God, yourself, and one other person. • 55. When Loneliness Starts Talking: The Lies We Believe When We Feel Unseen 24.06.2026 16m
Have you ever noticed how loneliness changes the way you think? A missed phone call starts to feel personal. A broken relationship begins defining your worth. A disappointment becomes evidence that you're unseen, forgotten, or somehow not enough. In this episode, Brenda Kennison explores how loneliness affects our thoughts, shapes our identity, and influences the stories we tell ourselves. Through Scripture, neuroscience, and practical mind renewal tools, you'll learn how to separate what happened from what loneliness is trying to make it mean. If you've struggled with rejection, isolation, emotional pain, or feeling unseen, this episode will help you recognize unhealthy thought patterns, anchor your identity in God's truth, and take a step toward healing and freedom.   🔑 Key Episode Insights Loneliness creates real emotional pain, but pain is not always a reliable narrator. The stories we build around loneliness often become more damaging than the loneliness itself. Hagar's encounter with "The God Who Sees Me" reminds us that we are never invisible to God. Mind renewal helps us separate painful experiences from the conclusions we've drawn about ourselves. David and Jesus both experienced loneliness, yet neither allowed loneliness to define their identity. God's truth has the power to challenge the stories loneliness has been telling you.   🧠 Why This Matters Many people assume loneliness is simply a relationship problem. In reality, loneliness often becomes an identity problem when we begin believing its stories. When left unchecked, those stories can shape how we view ourselves, our relationships, and even our relationship with God. Mind renewal helps us become aware of those patterns so we can replace lies with truth and move toward emotional healing, peace, and freedom.   🛠 Practical Mind Renewal Tool The Loneliness Story vs. Truth Check: Examining the Stories Loneliness Tells This guided reflection tool will help you identify the stories loneliness may be telling you, compare those stories with God's truth, and begin building new pathways of thinking rooted in truth rather than pain. The tool is designed to help you separate what happened from the meaning loneliness has attached to the experience. • 54. The Walls We Build: How Isolation Becomes a Comfort Zone 17.06.2026 13m
Have you ever found yourself saying, "I'm just better off by myself"? Most people don't intentionally choose isolation. What often begins as self-protection after rejection, disappointment, betrayal, or emotional pain can gradually become a pattern that keeps us disconnected from the very relationships we need. In this episode, Brenda explores why isolation feels so safe, what Scripture reveals about hiding, and how the brain develops protection patterns after painful experiences. You'll learn the difference between protection and healing, why awareness is the first step toward freedom, and how God gently invites us out from behind the walls we've built.   🔑 Key Episode Insights Isolation often begins as self-protection, not a desire to be alone. Protection and healing are not the same thing. Avoiding pain can feel safe while still preventing growth and connection. The brain learns from painful experiences and creates patterns designed to protect us from future hurt. Old protection patterns can continue operating long after the original threat is gone. Adam and Eve's response to shame was to hide, revealing a biblical pattern that still affects us today. Healing begins when we honestly identify what we're protecting and allow God to meet us in those places.   🧠 Why This Matters Many people assume their emotional walls are simply part of their personality. In reality, those walls may be protection patterns developed in response to pain, rejection, disappointment, or betrayal. When we understand how the brain learns from painful experiences and compare those patterns with biblical truth, we gain the awareness needed for mind renewal and healing. As we allow God to reveal what we've been protecting, we can begin moving from survival mode toward greater freedom, connection, emotional regulation, and peace.   🛠 Practical Mind Renewal Tool This episode introduces the EP54 Reflection Guide built around one powerful question: "What are you protecting?" The guide helps listeners identify areas where self-protection may have quietly become isolation and creates space for honest reflection, prayer, and awareness. The EP54 Reflection Guide is available inside the Mind Renewal Solutions Made Simple Facebook Community and through this week's Day One of Sobriety Insider Newsletter. • 53. Why Am I So Lonely? The Hidden Cost of Disconnection 10.06.2026 13m
Loneliness is becoming increasingly common, yet many people struggle to understand why they feel disconnected even when they're surrounded by family, friends, coworkers, or church communities. In this episode of the Day One of Sobriety podcast, Brenda begins a brand-new series exploring the hidden cost of loneliness and the deeper issue that often lies beneath it: disconnection. Through personal experience, biblical truth, and neuroscience-informed teaching, you'll discover why loneliness is often a signal that something deeper needs attention, how prolonged disconnection shapes the way we think, and why healing begins with awareness.   🔑 Key Episode Insights Loneliness is often a symptom of disconnection rather than the root problem itself. God designed human beings for connection long before sin, shame, rejection, and broken relationships entered the world. Prolonged loneliness can influence perception and shape the way we think about ourselves, other people, and even God. Being seen is not the same as being known, and visibility alone cannot satisfy our need for meaningful connection. Comparison often increases disconnection by shifting our focus away from authenticity and gratitude. Healing begins when we honestly identify where disconnection has taken root in our relationship with God, ourselves, or others.   🧠 Why This Matters Many people assume loneliness means something is wrong with them. In reality, loneliness often serves as a signal that an important connection needs attention. When disconnection goes unrecognized, it can quietly influence identity, emotional regulation, relationships, and spiritual growth. Mind renewal helps us move beyond simply reacting to loneliness and begin understanding what it may be revealing beneath the surface. As awareness increases, healing becomes possible. God can restore what has become disconnected and renew the way we think, one step at a time.   🛠 Practical Mind Renewal Tool This episode introduces a simple reflection question designed to help listeners identify where disconnection may have taken root: "Where have I become disconnected?" Rather than focusing on fixing everything at once, this reflection helps create awareness around areas that may need healing and reconnection. Listeners can continue processing this question through the EP53 Reflection Guide available inside the Mind Renewal Solutions Made Simple Facebook Community and through the Day One of Sobriety Insider Newsletter.   💥 Get the book, Trapped in Your Thoughts: Break Free From Overthinking and Toxic Cycles Using the Day One Mindset using this link ⬇️ https://a.co/d/0b03SCtb   🔗 Related Resources & Links 📬 Join the Day One of Sobriety Insiders to receive the weekly email newsletter! 💬 Mind Renewal Solutions Made Simple Facebook Community–Engage with other Overcomers and access all episode resources. 📝 Explore the Day One of Sobriety Blog for more encouragement. 👥 Go Deeper with 1:1 coaching support!
